Q: Can't set wireless timed access controls past 11:59 PM

I am trying to restrict access to my wireless at night when my teenagers should be sleeping.  Trying to set it up on weekends to allow access BETWEEN 6am and 2 am.  No matter what I try I get the error  The value for “Timed Access Control” is invalid.  It can't seem to figure out that I want to go past midnight and basically disable it from 2am to 6 am.  I've even tried to allow acces between 9pm and 2am.  Nothing I try seems to work after 11:59 PM.  Can anyone help?

Suggest that you solve this by setting up separate "rules" for each device that you want to allow to connect.

The Default Rule...for example....might be something like Everyday between 7 AM and 11:59 PM

Click the + button and set up another rule for each device that you want to allow to connect....Saturdays between 12 AM and 2 AM

And another rule for each device that you want to allow to connect....Sundays between 12 AM and 2 AM

Nothing will work as the end time past 11:59 pm.  When I click the + to add a setting and then select BETWEEN, any end time past 11:59 PM gives the error I mentioned above.  It is not possible to enter 12:00 AM to 2:00 AM.  It will not accept any AM time as the end time.

I cannot duplicate this. It has worked for me for years with all versions of AirPort Utility

Not sure what else to suggest. What version of AirPort Utility are you using?

I'm using Airport Utility 6.0 and it doesn't look anything like your screen shot.airport1.jpgairport3.jpg

By the way, thanks for your help.

My only suggestion is that you are going into the next day...

And that won't work because you have selected "Everyday" which ends at midnight....

You might want to try something like this...

Everyday ----- Between 5:45 AM and 11:59 PM

Everyday ----- Between 12:00 AM and 12:30 AM

I am only assuming you want have this active from 5:45 AM to 12:30 AM that next morning.

And Off from 12:30 AM to 5:45 AM

    Just a thought......

You could also download Airport Utility 5.6 which will look like Bob's screen above but I don't think will help you anymore with the time access...

    But give it a try.

I'm using Airport Utility 6.0 and it doesn't look anything like your screen shot.

The screens look a bit different on 6.0....but the "default" rule and "+" to add a new rule are the same. You can use AirPort Utility 5.6 if you want.

You cannot go past 11:59 PM on any single rule. So, as Joseph notes...and I noted previously....make the default rule from your start time in the morning to 11:59 PM.

Then add as many other rules that you need to satisfy your requirements.

It would make things much simpler if you made your everyday rule go until 11:59 PM and leave it at that.

But, if you want devices to be able to access things daily until 12:30 AM, then you will have to setup a rule as Joseph suggests Everyday between 12:00 AM and 12:30 AM

Then go with the 12:00 AM to 2:00 AM rule for the weekend days for the devices that you need

I don't know if there is a limit on the number of rules that can be established, but I've used 4 or 5 with no problems.

Added specific days and divided each day up to between 6am - 11:59 pm and 12:00am and 2:00 am.  Do you think we will lose Internet access for 1 minute between 11:59 and 12:00 am?  Thanks for your help.

No, the 11:59 time is actually through 11:59:59.

So, it would normally turn "Off" the instant that it reaches 12:00.

But since it will already be on at 12:00 with the additional rule, there will be no break in the action.

Has anyone found a solution to this problem?  I am having the same problem.  If I want to set access from, say, 5PM to 2AM, I get the same error message.

At this point I am getting pretty sick and tired of this and shopping for a new router.

Rule 1 cannot go past 11:59PM, so your rules would look like this:

Everyday between 5 PM and 11:59 PM

Rule 2 would look like this:

Everyday between 12 AM and 2 AM

There will be no break in the connection, as verified by other users in this thread.

I just found out that it must not like control times that are identical to previous times within the same window. If one day, like a Monday, you have access from 6:00 AM to 5:30 PM, using the exact same time for a Tuesday setting. It will work if you change Tuesday to 6:01 AM to 5:31 PM. It is a pain but I think the invalid entry is due to it seeing an identical time EVEN THOUGH it is for a different day. Hope that helps!!

    > it must not like control times that are identical to previous times within the same window  Thanks Jldmeyer, this solved the issue I was having. I made two groups, 8:15-11:45 and 8:16-11:46.
