Can the ibook play an 80mm mini cd/dvd?

I have an ibook G4 and I was unsure if I could insert an 80mm cd, and have it work.

ibook G4, Mac OS X (10.4.5)

AFAIK, the only slot loading Mac's that could reliably read/write non-standard CD's without breaking something were the G3 iMac's (Indigo's,Summer 2001?) and later. After the G3 iMac's were discontinued the ability to use non-standard disc's went with them.

I used the mini disc's in my G3 all the time. I still do, and have suffered no ill effects, I never even had one get stuck. Unfortunatly this will damage a newer Mac's drive. I strongly believe this is a "feature" that Apple should bring back.

A previous version of that article(as of Jan 21, 2003) stated that mini CDs and DVDs were compatible with slot-loading drives, but included a note that PowerBook drives could not accomodate an 80mm round disk. CDs and DVDs which weren't round were always listed as incompatible.

Niel is correct, before the G3's were completely phased out and the article updated, it stated that round mini's could be used in G3 iMac's. Laptops were always a no no, and now that G3's are officially, completely gone,... so is the ability to use these disc's.

As I said I wish they could bring this feature back,... sometimes you just don't need a whole CD,.. :sigh:
