iPad 3 is getting hot

Received my new iPad today and I love the new screen...but right off I noticed that it gets really-really hot. I have the original iPad and have used it for hours at a time and it has never, ever got hot. Is this normal? I don't like it...it makes the iPad hard to use for a long period.

A case will not help the iPad cool down. Some will even hurt if there is no enough circulation to the back. But it will act as an insulator so the iPad doesn't feel as warm to your hands. Think of the case as a oven mitt. 😉

I haven't use my new iPad for an extended period of time and have not noticed any difference from the iPad 2. I'll do some testing tonight. I'm sure it will get warmer due to the bigger battery.

I am not being a "Fanboy" BUT, this is why Apple waited this long before putting 4G into their devices. It is one power hungry options. Other devices with 4G have struggled with this also. Heck, this current 4G chip in the new iPad is even better than past versions. It is always a balancing act, complain about heat OR complain about no 4G or Complain about battery life Or complain about Processor speed, ect ect. Please note, I am not accusing anyone of doing that or anythig else for that matter, but of course you are going to get heat with a 50W battery, ect. I think Apple decided people complaing about heat was better that people complaing about no 4G. Plus, the market dictated that 4G be included. It also allows Apple to get it's "feet wet' with 4G in any easier device to put in into , (the iPad).

Just me 2 cents

Mine is getting really hot and I have only been using for a couple of hours. I don't have a case on it because I wanted to buy it at a store where I could test with the iPad but have pretty specific one in mind. However the heat issue might make me return this one and get the iPad 2 instead. It is a hand held device - getting too warm to touch (with a very average room temperature) is not an option. If anyone finds an answer to the problem please let me know!

Is there anyone here that is experiencing the heat issue that does not have the 4g? I have the 64gb 4g but the 4g is not enabled. Is there anyone here that has not experienced the problem at all? Maybe it is just a small selection with them that have a defect. It is even uncomfortable having it on my lap as I type this:(

I streamed Car 2 1080p for about an hour and half at half brightness. The back is no warmer than my iPad 2. Mine is only a 16G wi-fi. I don't see how anyone can stare at the screen at full brightness 😎, unless in daylight.

If your iPad is that hot. I would take it to an Apple store asap.

Hi - got my new iPad on Friday, and it ran hot straight away. I've seen posts online that say that they run hot after a few hours, not straight away.

Anyhow, I totally discharged the battery, recharged overnight, and then disabled iCloud on it - it seems to have made quite a difference. It's still al little hot, but nowhere near what it was like before.

I think iCloud syncing may be the culprit! Disable it and see if it makes a difference.
