Will I be able to transfer my downloaded Nook books to the ipad?

I am considering purchasing an ipad 2 (can't really see the need to get the biggest and baddest...lol). I presently have a Nook Tablet with about 220 books downloaded to it. Will I be able to transfer these books to the ipad or am I basically starting over? With the ipad, are the books in the library free or will I be buying books all over again? Also, what about game apps? Free? Purchase? Im new at this, so please bear with me! Thanks!

BeachCatFan, thanks for that!!! It is good to know....now, the next question....I know with the ipods you can download music from an outside source into your itunes folder and then transfer that to the ipod. Does this work the same with the ipad??? Can music and/or books from outside source be uploaded into your itunes folder and then downloaded to your ipad?

There is a free Nook app which you can re-download your Nook purchases into - you won't be able to, for example, read them in Apple's iBooks app as ebooks tend to have digital rights management on them which tie them to the store's e-reader and/or apps.

(Edit : ibooks supports DRM-free epub books as well, and PDFs)

For the ibookstore for iBooks, some are free and some aren't (similarly for games and apps in the iTunes app store), it tends to be best to shop around and get books from the cheapest store and don't limit yourself to just using the one store and app i.e. look at Apple's ibookstore , Amazon (there is a free Kindle app for the iPad as well), Barnes & Noble etc.

Yes to both music and books. Music is the same as for iPods and iPhones - it will sync to the Music app on the iPad (it used to be called the iPod app but it was renamed in iOS 5) .

For books it will depend partly on whether they are DRM-free or not : those that are can be synced to, for example, the iBooks app; if they aren't DRM free then you may need the store's own app (if they have one) in order to read it on the iPad. If they support copying of books from your computer then they will tend to use 'file sharing'

So it sounds like my epub books can be re-downloaded from my thumbdrive via the computer with no problem to read them, but the nook books are more of a "hassle"? If I download the Nook app, when I re-download the books, so they go specifically to an area where the app will be able to find them and open them? Im new at all of this, so please bear with me if I sound stupid. Just want something simple and easy.....still on the fence as to whether I am going to purchase an ipad 2 or just keep my Nook tablet. Trying to weigh pros and cons, the first being the $$.

Im not the most technical savvy individual. Is this something I can easily do, with the Nook app and then redownloading the books? I know that Nook is epub format. What is the iBooks? And thanks, guys! I will probably have more questions as I go along. Hope you don't mind! 😉

Simply download and install the free NOOK app onto your iPad. When you open the app, you just hit the "sync" symbol (after signing into you B&N account, I think....I can't remember and I just did it yesterday 🙂) and all of your purchased Barnes and Noble books will be show up in the app with a "download" bar across the book cover. Tap to download. I just did this yesterday when my new iPad arrived and it was a piece of cake. The display when I opened a book was amazing.............and I own the N1E, the NST, and the NC!
