The New iPad will not sync all photo's

I picked up the new iPad yesterday at the Apple store and am having a problem getting it to sync all of my photo library.

Im using iTunes on Windows 7 to sync the "My Pictures" folder to the iPad.

It will sync some but not all of the folders in the "My Pictures". I have deleted the "iPod Photo Cache" folder, that did not help.

I have 2 iPhones and 2 older iPad 1's which sync the photo's just fine.

Open iTunes. Under Menu item Edit\Preferences - click - and then under each tab of page, ie general, playback, sharing, etc, click on the help button in the lower left corner. The help associated with the Devices Tab and the Advanced tab should find you all the information you need.

I would also suggest that you have a quick look in iTunes menu Help, once open try typing _Syncing Photos_ into the search area, and check under Sync Your Device Manually heading that displays.

This setting will allow you a better fine tune of your syncinging for general media such as photos music and movies etc, whilst still enabling autosync of other items, like contacts, calendars, mail and notes.

Worth a look anyway. Best wishes. Ct

This may be to do with comparability issues with the iOS. Apple support indicates that whilst an old backup say, iOS 5.0 can be resynced to a new pad running iOS 5.1.1 ec, You cannot synch from an updated iOS to an old iOS on another device. In your case I would turn on iCLoud photoroll at your PC icloud control panel, sync to the cloud, then let the cloud push the data to both of your devices. the cloud is more robust in these scenarios. Worth a try.

A very dissapointing problem. I was hoping the new release of iTunes would fix it but it did not. My iPad 3 won't synch photos and I have tried all the "fixes" in all the threads. It stops at different spots each time. To make it worse, I synched my iPhone 4S today and it won't synch all the photo's either. Looks like Apple broke "photo" function with the new release of iPad3 and iTunes. I have bought each new version of iPad the day it was released and happy that I did so until now. I wish I could go back to my iPad2 and have my pictures back.

Apple... please fix!!

me neither..... i only want to sync only 1000photos .. but i can't .. and now i give up ...

It is unreasonable that i can't import the photo with more than 3000 long............

When apple can fix this problem?? I bought the ipad 3 is iphoto... so i expect using it to edit photo!!

I have also sent email to apple ... but haven't replied yet.. so sad at this moment!!!!

First, I want to thank everyone who's posted here. The information has been invaluable.

I was finally able to sync successfully last night, after trying many of the "fixes" recommended here without success. This is a work around, but a fairly straightforward one (and one you've heard before). I'd tried something like it in the past without success, but this time it worked. This is what I did:

  1. Updated iTunes to the latest version and restarted my computer.
  2. Restarted my iPad 3.
  3. Created a new iPad photo directory.
  4. Deleted all instances if the iPod Cache.
  5. Used LightFrame to downsize my photos to the long-side of the photo = 3,000 pixels (previously I tried this at 3,017 pixels without success).
  6. Synced one folder with 350 photos in it.

When it worked with 350 photos, I knew something was going right, because I've never been able to sync that many photos on this iPad successfully. I synced another 1,000 photos and then synced the remainder of my photos, some 3,500 in all.

At this point I just wanted to get my photos on the iPad and wasn't overly concerned that I had to downgrade the resolution of some of them. (Many of the photos are old and aren't affected by the change in size.)

Thanks, everyone, for all your help.

Yes, this is really pathetic.

Had a similar problem after updating my ipad1 to ios5 but it eventually worked (probably after an itunes update) and continued to work since.

All without reszing, changing directories etc etc.

My new ipad3 is useless....won't sync more than a few of the 10,000 photos that I have. What is the point of an ipad that won't sync photos, as this is one of the main reasons for having one?

Apple are supposed to call me later today...no doubt with the usual...update itunes, restore ipad etc rubbish which we have all tried already.

Very tempted to take it back to an Apple store and insert it in an appropriate place!

I have the same problem. Cannot sync all photos in any particular folder. I have NOT restored my iPad 3 from a previous backup. I have a brand new device.

I used to have an iPad 2 and the same photos synced fine. The problem is with the iPad 3.

Each time I try to sync a folder, a different amount of photos sync. Sometimes it syncs 20 photos, sometimes 50, sometimes 10. It looks like it's completely broken.

No "solution" here helps. There is no solution, folks. Apple has to bring an update, not us! Told that times and times before. There - is - no - solution. And if there WOULD be one, Apple or someone else may NOT say, that every customer has to know this "solution" or "workaround". That is no solution...

So please stop "How to´s", because there are NONE. And these step by step "solutions" work on that one machine with maybe that "one" ipad 3. The moment you also use an iPhone 4S on that machine and sync it, the whole thing crashes again, because also the photos on the iPhone are crap and all albums false... and so on.

So please stop these step-by-step "****" (sorry, I am angry) and do more pressure towards APPLE. It´s their product, WE have spend our money for it and WE have to get a fully functional product - and not in weeks or months. NOW. Thats it. Apple also got the whole money of 799 Euros and not "well, just 437 Euros, because, well, I dont have more than that, sorry".

They have to deliver the solution. Fast.

I finally got my photos to sync, but not through the ICloud, I used a combination of Dropbox and Evernote (depending on whether I was chosing pics from my home or office computer) to sync with the new IPad. It worked just fine. Now I have just the photos I want on the IPad. I see no reason to use the ICloud when there are other cloud services that seem to work better.

Figured I'd throw a quick update out here. This won't tell any of you anything you don't already know. However the Apple Tech Support contact with whom I've been working on this issue called me today. (He has been very good about keeping in touch.) Apple's engineers do acknowledge the problem, though I don't believe you will see anything publicly stated anytime soon. THE only workaround, at least as far as a straight sync with iTunes is concerned, is to resize your photos to less than 3000 x 3000. Sync will then work as expected.

Don't shoot the messenger folks. I know as well as everyone else this is not a solution. However I thought I'd at least let you know what I've learned thus far.
