The New iPad will not sync all photo's

I picked up the new iPad yesterday at the Apple store and am having a problem getting it to sync all of my photo library.

Im using iTunes on Windows 7 to sync the "My Pictures" folder to the iPad.

It will sync some but not all of the folders in the "My Pictures". I have deleted the "iPod Photo Cache" folder, that did not help.

I have 2 iPhones and 2 older iPad 1's which sync the photo's just fine.

Hello fellow sufferers, I don't know if I am in the correct forum place but here goes:

I have 3,700 jpeg images on my Windows XP SP3 computer, all in folders of 250, sequentially numbered 0001 - 3,700.

I was blown away by the screen quality of the new iPad and fooled by fellow photographers who sware by Mac. In the store I was assured I could transfer the folders to Albums in the iPad and hold the sequential order. I've tried syncing, 100 images at a time, only to discover that If I add a couple of images to an Album I have to sync all 3,700 and if I try to sync just one Album it deletes the lot. Then to my horror I discovered the rotton soft or hard ware randomises the sequences in each Album.

Then I tried the Transfer App. It chooses what images to transfer and what to ignore, randomises the selection, sticks them in something called Camera Roll and duplicates them into Albums. As the file names are not available it is impossible to know what is in or out and having a second go only adds images to Camera Roll.

I am highly experienced in using computers and tried to understand what is going on but, finally, contacted Apple Care. I paraphrase what he told me. iPads are made for fools who don't know or care about technology. Syncing and transfer are governed by meta data of what handled and I should not expect it to comply with my wishes. Just point and shoot, sit back, admire the lovely pictures and share them with my friends.

I wish I'd never paid out good money for a 64 Gig model.

Any advice or re-direction gratefully received - I can't believe that Apple are that stupid !!!!!

I am happy to report that iTunes 10.6.3 solved it for me.

Just ran the installer, rebooted the PC, started itune, synced the new iPad, and all photos came in!

That was about 100 folders for a total of about 5,000 photos, most of them at 16 mega pixel.

I also did half a dozen of further syncs after adding or removing large folders, they were all succesful, and my new iPad was perfectly in sync.

Note that the new iTune 10.6.3 installls new usb drivers for the new ipad...

There was no need to mess up anything else, like clearing cache, etc.

I'll post again if I see trouble, but so far so good.

Finally, a couple of months later, I might start to use it, because so far it was pretty much a gaming machine for my son :-)

Well I'll be.. I think we may have its sorted! :)

I did an update, updated iTunes and did the same iPad update. I initially just synced and checked my albums, still duplicate photographs and incorrect thumbnails but as this was a new build I decided to wipe the iPad, clear the cache and resync.

2560 photographs synced, not one duplicate, not one incorrect thumbnail...AND the stuttering when I scroll down my albums has gone... So a complete fix for me, I just hope it's perminant. Thanks Apple, you finally sorted it.

And with the news that I'll be getting Siri in a few months I'm a happy Apple customer this morning :)

Thanks, everyone, for the promt info. Re. the iTunes software update. Downloaded and installed, then synced 3500 images in 14 folders - great, every image included and no duplicates a great improvement. However, some images transferred to places Apple thinks they should go instead of leaving them in the positions I want them. I want them in strict numerical file order. Apple seems to like to read the meta data and sequence by date of file orign or modification. Any suggestions?

BTW - I was talking to an Apple Technician in Apple Support re my problems last evening. He knew nothing of the iTunes software glitches or that the a new version would be issued within hours - I would have expected better in an "Award winning" customer support department. If I had been told at the start that they were working on the problem it would have saved me two weeks of utter frustration.

I agree, only partially fixed. After removing all the photos from my iPad I deleted the photo cache and started a sync with all folders, a bit over 6000 photos. Guess what, it failed. So I cleared the cache again and synced 1 folder at a time. It seems after I have successfully synced about 1500 photos I need to close/restart iTunes or it won't continue without failing.

On the up side, however, the photos are now sorted in the correct date order, the jerky scrolling has gone, and albums no longer get corrupted by subsequent syncs. So thank you Apple, it's a good first step. Looks like iTunes is due for a major rewrite hey?

Fingers crossed, some day we may even be able to sort our files into folders with labels like "2012", then we might be able to have sub-folders like "March" or "June" or "My Hawaii Trip". Wouldn't that be cool!! Its a shame no one has thought of it before. One day perhaps.

I want to inform about 2 another bugs:

1. Quantity of uploaded photos to iPad 3 shown are wrong in Configuration -> About:

One iPad 3 has 4056 photos ( iTunes show the same ), but About shows 3972 only

Another iPad 3 has 2791 photos ( iTunes show the same ), but About shows 2711 only

In the previous version of iTunes (before 10.6.3) both values were the same.

2. Free space in iPad 3 calculated differently in iTunes and Configuration -> About:

One iPad 3 thru About shows 1.9 GB Free, but iTunes shows 1.69 GB

Onothe iPad 3 thru About shows 3.4 GB Free, but iTunes shows 0.64 GB

Size of other partitions ( Audio/Photos/Apps/Books/Other ) are not shown in About, i.e. I cannot tell what type of Partition calculated differently.

This problem was also in the previous version of iTunes (before 10.6.3).

Printscreens are available under request.

Please check and push "Like" is you have same problems - after 10 "Likes" I'll make new topic.

P.S. May be these bugs exist only in iOS 6.0 Beta 1.
