It's there, just not where I expected to find it. Before you drag the clip into your movie, tap it while it is in the source stack. Yellow dots at each end, move to trim it there.
Seems to me it would be nice to trim it while it is in the project, but under this system, you trim it to what you want, then move it in.
No yellow and no trim option still!
I have an IPAD 4. I was unable to trim video, as tapping the screen did not produce the "trim" buttons.
I presented the problem at an Apple store where they did various manipulations (which I could not follow) and finally it worked.
I now find I have again lost the function of trimming. Getting the video from Photos, Album, camera Roll does not resolve the problem. I am now on IOS 6.
Can anyone help (I am a long way from an Apple store)
I am having this same problem. I have found evidence online that this feature is available, but for some reason the "handles" on the sides of the video timeline do not show up and there is no "edit" feature to be found. This works without problem on my iPhone. Anyone else experiencing this?
I was talking about I movie, by the way. I do not think you can edit clips in camera roll.
At the top of the screen you should see the video time line(frames from video).
Touch the start and hold, timeline outline should turn yellow and a "trim" button should appear.

It's under viewing photos and videos.
All of a sudden it works in my ipad. I was playing the video in imovie trying to trim it and then when I went back to camera roll the trim guides appeared. Go figure. BTW pjl123 yes, it can be editted in camera roll.
pjl123 - I am referring to the camera roll, not iMovie.
The link Johnathan posted brought me to this.. straight from the horses mouth (Apple):
iPad User Guide > Camera > Trimming videos -- You can trim the frames from the beginning and end of a video that you just recorded, or from any other video in your Camera Roll album. You can replace the original video, or save the trimmed version as a new video clip.
ilmyvi - I played around some more and found our answer. Within the "Photos" app on the iPad there are four main sections to browse through your photos on top (at least w/ my setup): Photos, Photo Stream, Albums, Places.
I had been primarily viewing my photos from the "Photos" header, within which you cannot edit/trim videos.
Switching to the "Albums" header and then opening the "Camera Roll" album does allow you to trim videos.
Hopefully this clears everything up for anyone else facing this issue.
Awesome, thanks so much!! As soon as I went into camera roll my problem was fixed.
Well done for spotting this. You just saved me one hour of work. Thanks, Steve.
