iPad 3rd gen photos won't sync

Problem if I try to sync photos to my iPad 3 64gb 4G. If I select some or all of my 7300 photos, iTunes either converts a few (9 to 15 pics) syncs them and skips the rest or skips them all entirely , the ones that do sync look stunning on the retina screen though.

I never had this issue with my old iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and my current 4S or my iPad 1 & 2.

I also tried deleting the photo cache multiple times, restoring the iPad 3 from an iCloud backup as well as a slightly older backup through iTunes, I even reinstalled the old iTunes 10.5 and I still had the same photo sync issue.

Yet my iPhone 4S 64gb is syncing my photos through iTunes via a cable & WiFi just fine.

I even tried copying all 7300 photos to an external drive and syncing them from there, hoping a completely different location may work. Managed 150 odd shots before skipping the rest, this problem is completely random.

Out of those shots a few were the wrong image, the thumbnail image was right but when opened full the image was from a completely different folder

I even tried this morning setting my iPad 3 up as a new device instead of restoring from iTunes or iCloud, synced only my photos and nothing else but I had the same issue so this is definitely a bug somewhere, I suspect iTunes.

Again, same photos and I have no issue syncing 7300 shots to my iPhone 4S.

Everything else syncs to the iPad 3 just fine and runs perfectly.

I tried Yoyo99's approach, and wish I hadn't. I had managed to install about 60% of my photos on the iPad 3 from one of my previous efforts, but now have less than 10%. I recommend to all that you either 1) return your iPad 3 for a refund, if you doubt Apple's willingness to fix this problem promptly; or 2) ignore all the "home remedies" and just wait until the ********s fix it, if you think this will happen in a reasonable amount of time. At this point, I'm more leaning toward 1). In buying this piece of crap, I violated one of my paramount rules: never buy serial number 1 of anything. Bitter lesson learned, again.

I'm another one of the lucky people... mine won't sync properly, some pics not all.

So a very odd piece of into on this... I was just performing the sync while watching my list of Albums on the ipad and you can see a count of what it thinks it's suppose to ber syncing quickly run through up to the total it believes should be sync'd. Couple of things I noticed...

1) The total was about 2 times what I was trying to sync. I was only syncing 636 pictures, it was showing around 1200+.

2) While the count was ticking upward far too quickly itunes was saying that it was importing photos.

3) As soon as the count on the iPad reached it's end the iTunes sync stopped.

This is obviously a software/firmware issue that Apple needs to resolve.

I refuse to resize my pictures as that's just plain silly. If Apple wants me to use iTunes as the central hub for all my media (and they do) then they need to figure this out.

I won't be returning the iPad as I'm still happy with it otherwise... this is just a very pathetic that Apple isn't working harder on fixing this issue. Considering photo viewing has to be one of the very top reasons people buy an iPad (especially one with a retina display) this is not some small problem that isn't affecting a lot of people.

I wonder how many new ipad owners are completely unware their pictures aren't even synced until the go to view an album. That's how I found out, and it took me a week to check for the first time.

While resizing the images works... that isn't the primary issue.

Trying anything last night I let it sync over WiFi and it pulled 56 images, shot with my Canon 5D3, that are WELL over 3000px. And it imported them just fine. The issue appears to be with their importer blowing up while running. It's obviously not throwing an error, but it's enough to screw the whole process.

I have 5 albums selected to sync, and at this point 3 of them consistently fail, the titles show up on the iPad while the sync of being performed, but nothing is copied, and the titles vanish from the iPad when the sync completes.

I'm confident it will eventually be resolved, but why they aren't addressing it, and how none of the major news outlets are reporting it seems all a bit strange. It's hard to believe it could really only be affecting a small group of people.

I spent 3 session with Apple Support. They had me try many different things and the Engineers are now indicating that pictures with large dinesions (in excess of 3000X3000) will not sync. They are working on a solution.

They idicated that I until they come up with a fix I would have to resize all my pictures so that at least one of the dimensions i below 3000.

I also did not have trouble putting the exact same pictures on either my first generation iPad or my iPhone 4s's.

I wish it were that simple... images over 3000 will sync... it's just hit or miss.

I currently have 65 pictures sync'd from an album of 450+ that are significantly over the 3000px resolution limit (5760x3840) and they were able to sync just fine.

There is something else funadamentally broken with their resizing/import part of iTunes. I have a feeling it's a memory related issue.

The fact that it works flawlessly on the same exact images on every other Apple device isn't helping Apple's argument that resolution root of the issue.

The fact that they are still telling people to resize their pictures as a solution is ludicrious and flat out lazy. It's nothing more than a placebo to feed people to buy them more time instead of owning up to the actual problem.

NONE of my pictures are larger than 3000 and never have been. But I could not get sync to work correctly after 20+ hours of trying many solutions, inclusing restoring iPad to factory defaults, turning off Wifi, etc. . The size of all my images is 2814. I've posted this before, but I'm hoping those engineers will at least glance at this forum instead of telling people to resize them. It is not a size issue. And many people have posted that resizing does not work - but that doesn't seem to be helping. Maybe they figure that most people will wait instead of going to all that craziness and trouble.

They all synced fine also when I did it only to the upper level folder and said include all subfolders - but it didn't create albums like it used to. When I restored iPad to factory defaults and then selected folders individually to get albums created it was a huge mess. Only some albums synced, only about half the photos even transferred, there were duplicates, and there were tons of pictures in the wrong albums. Some albums didn't even have a single picture that belonged to that album but had stuff from other folders.

The reason it works with other devices is because the code has an optimization step to resize them for other devices. That step does not occur for iPad 3. On the other devices, it is doing this optimization step first. When there is not the optimization step, as occurs with iPad3, the array building code is broken and doesn't work right. It needs these arrays or caches for albums.

Some people from this and other forums have even tried to do one single folder with 7 pictures - and only 1 picture transferred while others successfully transferred pics bigger than 3000. So it is a bug in the code with the building of the temporary storage area for transfer. I would think an engineer could quickly find the problem with all of the great information out there. And stop telling people they need to resize when that is CLEARLY not the problem.

Some of my photos sync others do not but it's not size related, some get put in the wrong album. I have this problem with my ipad3 and iphone4s but all photos sync to my ipad1. Wasted too much time on this problem already, if Apple don't fix the problem then that's the last apple product I shall buy. I am also recommending to family and friends not to get an iPad 3 until this is sorted. Shabby service really after all the apple hype of the new retina display.

Hi

Have the same problem with an ipad 3 and latest itunes running on a windows vista installation.

I tried copying the pcitures to ipod touch, iphone 3gs, 4 and 4s as well as to ipad 1 and ipad 2 ..... No problems at all, only with the ipad 3 the problem occurs.

So it cant be a windows 7 effect.

Also resizing did not work, nor did the deleting of the ipod photo cache.

Lets keep the fingers crossed for a rapid solution

Cheers
