    Ipad 3 with an older version of ITunes synced photos perfectly through my Macbook Pro. So it's ITunes not playing nice with Windows 7.

    You just got lucky - one of the few!  If you go to the Mac forums, you will see plenty of people having problems on Macs.

    Frustrating! I have gone to the Apple feedback link posted above and added my story. I've been to my local Genius bar. The support person could not figure out the problem (now I know that there is no solution); she polled every support person in the store. NONE OF THEM had any solution and no one would admit to having heard of the problem previously. This is only my second Apple product. I love my iPhone and have no problems syncing photos with it. Waited for the new iPad with great anticipation. I'll keep it because of the other things it does, but this photo sync issue is a huge disappointment; showing my photos was one of the big reasons for getting an iPad.

    Desktop and laptop are running Windows 7 Pro with plenty of RAM. As a PC user, I'm constantly appalled by the iTunes interface. What a joke!

    Thanks for the information I was thinking about booking an appointment with them. My previous workaround is to use Dropbox and let the photos wirelessly sync with my pc. There's a 2GB limit for free users.

    We need to send someone into an Apple Store and as soon as they look sceptically at the person and say 'Hmmm... I haven't heard of anyone else having that problem before' or 'It's the first time I've heard of anyone having a problem like that' start a flash mob with a song based around the phrase.


    Won't cure the problem but might highlight it.

    I had a "genius" session at an Apple store in Emeryville, CA.  She seemed quite clueless but did submit a report to Apple describing the problem.  She and other Apple reps in the store were not able to solve the problem.  Her recommendation was the usual "restore the iPad to factory defaults", something I was not willing to do.  She assured me that Apple will release a software update.

    So, it sounds like we're all screwed.  I bought this new iPad specifically for photos as the original iPad isn't up to it.  However, no issues syncing my 5d mkII raw files (and jpegs) to the original iPad, just won't do it on the new one.  I don't want to reduce the size, as I want to view on the i Pad while retaining my primary workflow on the PC.  My hard drives already fill up too quickly and require weekends worth of work to back up, without having to create a further set of copies!

    Just came off the call with the support line.

    I told them that I did everything that was suggested (including resetting the iPad completely).

    And they suggested to disable the iCloud account/Service on the iPad completely and then resynch the pictures. (even though I had the Photostream explicitely disabled) - and surprise-surprise now it works for all types of pictures (Raw-JPG, small (1000x800px) big (4000x2000px))...


    In a nutshell: seems to be an incompatibility between the iTunes Photosynch and the iCloud service on the iPad.

    I am glad I have now my pictures (>5000) again on my iPad (but always disabling/enabling iCloud prior to synching is really only an 'annoying' workaround) - so we need to wait for the next iCloud SW version on the iPad...

    I had tried this before - didn't work for me. I don't think there is a solution, I think it just randomly works sometimes.   All of the "fixes" posted here work for 1-2 people and nobody else.  Glad I took mine back - I was coming up on a month.

    You're right. Not a fix, I just got lucky. Took me 3 tries. I'm not going to resync my portfolio unless I do a 180 with my photography style. Photographers bending over for Apple is not new.
