I have just got my Ipad 3 and tried to plug my Iphone 4 USB cable into it but it doesn't fit? The USB cable that it did come with fits.
I applied a little pressure to get the Iphone 4 cable to actually go in but this threw me an error on the computer saying that the device is not functioning.
Is this a defect or has a new cable been launched that I dont know about?

no tons of questions here about using the earlier ipad chargers with it
and the earlier ipads and my iphone share cables just fine
maybe yours is damaged
or you're using a case which cause the problem
I have several Apple USB cables (Iphone 3gs, Iphone 4, Iphone 4s) and they all dont fit into the Ipad 3 and the one that came with the Ipad 3 doesn't fit any of my Iphones.
Based on this link, Apple has a single USB dock connector cable that is compatible with a large list of Apple devices.

Same exact cable and connector for all iOS devices.
If you can't insert them, the problem is you.

It's not you. My iPhone 4S cable was synching my iPad 1 just fine, then I went to synch my new iPad 3 and the plug didn't fit. I got my iPad 3's cable out of the box and it's synching now. I have always used my cables interchangeably, from the original iPhone thru now, this is the first one that didn't fit. If this is really the only cable capable of fitting the new iPad it is going to be really obnoxious.
I never even opened the package with the new cable for the iPad 3. All of my other cables fit just fine.
Iphone 4 USB data cable doesn't fit Ipad 3? Has this changed?
