i have a dvi to usb adapter. Can i use that to extend my Mac OSX Desktop?

The title basically has the question...

"i have a dvi to usb adapter. Can i use that to extend my Mac OSX Desktop?"

Will i need extra drivers, or have to download some type of support software for it to owkr, or will it not work at all?

Thanks!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Late 2006 Model

If the Samsung monitor has a DVI connection, then you will need Apple's Mini-DVI to DVI adapter and a DVI cable.

If the Samsung monitor is older and only has a VGA connection, then you will need Apple's Mini-DVD to VGA adapter and a VGA cable.

That is all, no drivers should be required for that setup.
