Screen just went blank

The machine was on for a couple of hours and it just went blank. Then I rebooted, now I have an extremely dark picture, can't see enough to move the mouse around and try to navigate to anywhere. Can't even power down except to hold downt the power button until it shuts down.

Help!!

Yes. I tried to get the screen brighter and from what I could barely see it was as far as it would go. So I re-booted several times. To no avail.

I shut it down for a while and disconnected the AC and about an hour later it came on and seems fine, but it is kinda flicker-y and jump-y now when I boot so I am wondering if it is about to go out for good.

i too have had the same problem. this pb is about a year old. today, for some reason, display went black. it was on but the back light wasn't working. when i rebooted pb, it (back light) was on for less than a second, flickered and went black. it was like that for about six hours and now it just flickers once every hour or so. i have no other electronic equipments near by and i never had any problems like this on any of my comptuers... so strange.

yep - the inverter board. definitely a cheaper repair than replacing the whole display 🙂 I had similar symptoms on my iBook G3, and replacing the inverter board fixed it right up.

everyone whose display suddenly becomes dim or has no light should investigate this before giving up on the laptop, or allowing a repair person to replace the entire display...
