Poor wifi reception on new iPad

I am in a hotel with my laptop and new ipad3. The laptop wifi reception is as strong as it gets, but the iPad only registers a weak signal. Anyone else having similar problems? Any suggestions?

After reporting I was having this problem last night, I am now in the reception of the hotel (I was in the bedroom last night). The signal is full strength again, and no matter how I hold it, the signal stays full. This leads me to suspect that although last night the signal reported full, it wasn't. And then by holding the iPad, it further reduced it to the point of losing it. That's my experience anyway.

I had the my trusty old ipad 1 next to my "new ipad" last night and was transferring some Safari bookmarks over to the new unit. I was at home and oly 20 feet from my Airport WiFi unit. Sure enough, the new ipad was just giving me the spinning wheel of doom, while the old ipad zipped right to the same website that the new ipad couldn't get to. I did a hard reboot on the new ipad and it immediately got to the website that it was unable to connect to a few mintes before. A couple websites later, the new ipad was hung up again.

This *****. I'm getting my money back if this is how life with the new ipad is going to be.

I miss Steve.

I'm living in Germany. I've got a 16gb wifi only "new" iPad.

And I'm also experiencing serious wifi reception issues.

While I get full bars on my iPhone 4, I only get one dot on my iPad.

I own an iPad 2 as well and I can't remember ever having this kind of bad reception.

But I wasn't one of the early adopters as well.

This time I think I'm getting punished for being an early adopter.

This kind of bad reception is a total NO GO for a "portable" device!

I hope they can fix this with a software update. Otherwise I'll have to return this "marvelous" device.

Cheers

I've got the same issue here...have a 32GB 4G from ATT and the wifi reception blows compared to my iphone 4, 1st gen ipad. Speeds were like .46Mbps on my new ipad, yet my iphone on wifi was @ 1.22Mbps. Both devices were idle, not running any apps other than the speed test. These tests were done more than once after a fresh reboot, next to each other.

Would not surprise me to find that Apple has tweaked down the power on the WiFi chip to save battery. Thus causing your lower signal. I have always found iPads, iPod Touch and iPhones to have weaker WiFi reception.

At least compared to other hardware such as laptops. But in all fairness I find my Macbook Pro can pickup a decent signal in my garage compared to my Wife's HP which barely can get a signal. Sometimes its just the oritentation of the antenna that causes more problems. I have always thought the iPad to have issues with its metal back in terms of creating a directional signal. If you want a more omni directional signal. Apple would almost certainly have to go to a plastic back for its iPad.

Has anyone noticed they the colors are off on a lot things? Here is an example: go to graigs list in your area, then note the color of the text. It should be a true blue. I noted the following:

iPad 3 - looks more purple to me.

iPad 2 - Looks blue

Iphone 4 - Looks blue

Iphone 4S - looks blue

Mac book Air 11" i7 - looks blue

The ones that look blue all look the same shade of blue as well.

Only the iPad3 color looks off at leas t this one. Anyone else?
