Poor wifi reception on new iPad

I am in a hotel with my laptop and new ipad3. The laptop wifi reception is as strong as it gets, but the iPad only registers a weak signal. Anyone else having similar problems? Any suggestions?

Sitting in bed, sick. Ugh.

MacBook Air connected via WiFi - no problems. Ever. RSSI of -74 (good, but not great considering the router is in the basement and I am in bed on the second floor).

The iPad III (or The New iPad) will connect to the same WiFi, but it will always loose that connection after 15-30 minutes. The WiFi signal icon is there and usually gives 2-3 "bars", but there is no data transfer. I see the activity status icon spinning and spinning, but nothing happens.

I can understand loosing connectivity due to poor signal strength, but the iPad will not reconnect unless I turn it off and back on again (sometimes this has to be done several times to get a stable reconnection).

I have the complete opposite experience. Both of my iPad 1's are lucky to make it more than 10 feet away from the house. My new iPad (3rd Gen) can make it 75"+ away. I noticed how much better signal I got the day it came. No issues whatsoever.

Edit - I'm using 802.11g. I did have a lot of issues with my original iPad with 802.11n. But, I did have a lot of issues with all my devices on my Netgear WNDR3700 and WNR3500L. I dumped them months ago.

I have not noticed the WiFi problem yet. I use Airport Express. Same bars as my iPhone 4. Over the weekend, when setting up the iPad 2 for my folks, I noticed my 3 picked their AT&T WiFi signal, better than their 2. Would the number of people using the WiFi in you home or in a public place effect the signal strength? I am not tech savvy.

I have a new iPad, the original iPad, an iPhone 4 and a iPhone 4S in my house. When I get 50-100 feet away from my router, both of my iPhones and the original iPad have strong WiFi signals. The new iPad has half strength on the signal indicator and has had trouble keeping a connection.

I think there is a problem if my new iPad can't keep up WiFi wise to my other iDevices.

I received my new iPad by mail on March 16 and noticed the wifi problem almost right away. It would lose connection in parts of my home where my phone and iPad 2 had full signal.

I made an appointment with a Genius for the next morning, and they gave me a new one with no questions asked. They could see that it had a weak signal even in the Apple Store, which is blanketed with wifi. The one I got from the store has no wifi issues at all. We did open the box and check to make sure the replacement unit got a strong signal before leaving the store.

For the record I have a 64 gig with AT&T. I don't know that it matters, but the shipment came from Pennsylvania, not directly from China, as some Apple products do. Not sure if that means there's a bad batch from some warehouse in PA, but I thought I'd put it out there.

Same here with the low signal but haven't noticed any difference in speed . I have the latest router from apple, not sure what model it is, and i'm in a 1000sqft apt...don't have any issues with signal with my other devices. It might just be the Wifi+4g models only . I intially ordered the wifi model only and played with it for a couple days and didn't notice the wifi signal problem, always had full bars. I kept reading about how fast the 4g/lte model is and how verizon is offering free tethering so I decided to fork over the extra few bucks for it, so I traded it in for the 4g model on Sunday. Now I am noticing the weak signal and instead of the 4g icon I get 3g. Anyway, I haven't noticed any issues with speed due to the low-medium signal.

Oh, I also used the wifi only model in LA in a 800sqft loft, before I traded it in, with a generic wireless router time warner provided and it had full bars. Anyway, hope this helps.

Same problem here, new iPad on wireless, drops off at about 30-40 feet from the router, iPhone 4S at the same distance has 3 bar on the fan indicator and works fine. It comes back up after a minute or so and drops off again. If it was hardware related it would not come back like this, it sounds like a software issue.

Ok, I have the same issue with my new iPad. I have a black 32GB wifi only.

So, wifi speed is good, but I have disconnects every 10 minutes or so and to fix it as a temporary solution

I'm going to Settings -> Wifi -> switch to OFF -> then to ON again to restart the connection

Thats very annoying! I hope this is Software issue and Apple will provide a fix soon
