Poor wifi reception on new iPad

I am in a hotel with my laptop and new ipad3. The laptop wifi reception is as strong as it gets, but the iPad only registers a weak signal. Anyone else having similar problems? Any suggestions?

Believe me, there id NO fix. I have been calling now with Apple for more then a month!!! I live in Costa Rica, and Apple tells me they can't do anything here. End of story, I am still stuck with an iPad and almost no Wifi. I have never ever in my whole live bought anything from an international company, with such a bad service!!! I am Dutch, I Holland companies HAVE to replace your device. Apple just gets away selling worthless iPad's, with no Wifi, and they get away with it. I am thinking of getting a lawyer! 1 month of calling, calling, calling, and still a not working iPad. Really, this iPad is this biggest HORROR STORY I HAVE EVER BOUGHT IN MY LIVE. Just because a complete, complete lack of any kind of service!

There are now 216814 Views of this topic. Yet the Geniuses in the Apple Store often continue to say they have never heard of this problem. That's completely dishonest.

There are 1,399 Replies in this discussion but not ONE of them is from an Apple person acknowledging the problem and say they will have a fix out very soon.

This is TERRIBLE customer service.

My next tablet will be an Android or Windows.

I have had it with Apple.

WiFi connection problems as described by so many ... I can only connect in about half the hotels & Starbucks I enter. Gee ... maybe AT&T would be so kind as to drink the Apple kool-aid, but until they do, my new iPad is half a boat anchor. Maybe this post belongs in a different thread, but I would like advise on confronting Apple. I have a case open & case number, but I am unwilling to restore the iOS software multiple time unless some Apple person can tell me there is a change. At this point I would like Apple to tell me they are aware of the problem and test my iPad (hardware test). If that is not possible, I am willing to try as many new iPads as necessary to find one that works, if need be exchange for an iPad 2. All else fails, gimme my money back. Comments? Old IBM mainframe & PC guy ... last apple I worked on was an apple IIe.

Believe me, I wish I could get my money back, with no service at all from Apple! Still stuck with an almost not working tablet from almost $ 1.000,-. Or a guaranteed working iPad. I am in contact with CNN, they have "ears for the story". It really is too redicules for words. Spending this kind of money, and no service, no refund and no replacement in the country where I live! Although iCon stores, and other stores, in my eyes, the same as an Apple store, but absolutely NO service. Apple US tells me " they" meaning iCon stores have other policies! How can I know, that there is a difrence between an Apple store and an iCon store? They look the same and sell both only Apple products. Big difference, here in Costa Rica, no service, no replacement, nothing!!! Just a $ 1.000,- poorer and a non working iPad. I will do absolutely anything to get my money back or to get a 100% working iPad! I have really never ever feld this screwed in my whole life!

I can also reproduce Dead grip on my ipad 3. Signal level is better when you hold ipad with left hand and use right to type, leaving speaker free. The thing is that im lefthanded. By holding with left hand you will cover camera so no facetime. There should be at least big sign on back - "wifi antena do not cover".

Wifi works at least better than on some cheap tablets, still i would expect apple not to put antena in my palm, place below apple sign was way better.

my Ipad 2 was great prior to IOS 6 ''UPGRADE''. Now its appalling. It is so slow - when it connects at my home network - Draytek router.

I use the Ipad out on the road and normally connect it to BTWIFI-with FON hotspots.

Now it will not connect to them !! I am using a Compag Laptop on the hotspot now - depsite a full signal on the Ipad it will not connect. I have carried out all the tweeks advised by Apple...still no change.

This was my first Apple product. Would I purchase another ?? NO !!

The people on the customer care line must be pulling their hair out answering the calls about this subject. Its obvious they are being told to ''B-S'' the customer - I get different accounts/advice every time I ring - was even told by one agent that they wouldnt speak to me as my 90 day care had run out - The Ipad is 6 months old ( 64gb wifi only ).!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really disapointed with Apple and the fiasco of ''upgrading''

Come on APPLE - ADMIT YOU MADE A BALLS UP !!! - make a downgrade available for users !!! Bring back IOS5 for those that want it ------ it would be so easy and stop using your customers as an R/D ...

GOT TO FIX IT

New iPad/iPad 3, started showing one bar instead of 3 (full) some times ago.

After growing disappointed for the one-bar reception under home and university wifi (both my iPhone 4S and MacBookAir, flatmate's MBP and friends' devices having full reception in both settings), I got to solve the thing and bring it back to full reception by:

General -> reset (the lowest menu) -> reset network.

iPad rebooted (the whole thing took like 1 minute) and is working perfectly again. Just blue arrow on the right of network name -> reset this network DID NOT work, form me.

Hope this helps, I understand it's a pain in the ***.

I'm in a hotel with free wifi and my iPhone 4S is connected to it at full strength. My iPad 3 doesn't even recognize that there is a network. It doesn't come up at all in the list of available networks. Both are running iOS 6.

Yes, I've tried resetting the network settings. Yes, I've tried turning wifi off and on. Yes, I've tried holding it upside down (with the home button at the top). Yes, I've tried turning cellular off. Nothing works. This is actually my second iPad 3. I returned the first one after only a day because the wifi was so bad and they gave me a replacement. The only way I've been able to use my iPad at home is by adding an access point to help the signal go further. If I didn't have AT&T on it, it would be utterly useless for travel because the wifi reception is so bad.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it makes me want to switch to another brand of tablet right, because I prefer iOS, but it does give me pause about my next purchase. It seems to be an issue for quite a few of us but they either choose to ignore it or they have no idea how to fix it.

New ipad (ipad 3) -does the signal loss just as reported reported here so please stop the denying on the thread - not helpful!. What is the solution? A soft reset helps but not permanently. So Apple - what is the deal - how many Ipad swaps do I need to go through to get one that does not have this issue. Going in tomorrow to swap this one. How many trips will I have to make to the Apple store until I gat a good Ipad? This one is gone tomorrow.
