Q: Poor wifi reception on new iPad

I am in a hotel with my laptop and new ipad3. The laptop wifi reception is as strong as it gets, but the iPad only registers a weak signal. Anyone else having similar problems? Any suggestions?

    After reading the problems with the new ipad above, I think this product is seriously flawed. And I decide not to buy this new apple product. The quality of new apple design is now under doubts. It is also surprising that Apple has not formally responded to this so far, no solution provided, not even info about potential causes. The whole thing is just disappointing.

    Just do what I wish that I did.  Follow along with what's going on, and wait a couple of months for it to all shake out.  In a couple of months time, they'll either have it all worked out, or they won't.  If they don't, there's a good chance that this is as good as it gets.

    Using the website that allows you to look up serial numbers, I've been checking random boxes in Target.  The oldest one I found in Target as of yesterday was week 15.  So they are constantly adding new stock.  Perhaps they'll work it all out and the newer ones will not have the issues that some of the older ones do.

    I have until 5/31 to decide whether I want to keep my iPad 2, or whether I want to return it.  I'll be watching closely.

    But after the number that I exchanged before giving up, I'm really hesitant to try again.  These things are expensive, and I just kept sending them back.

    Just an FYI on data transfer rates:

    B = max rate of 11 mbs 2.4 ghz

    A = max rate of 54 mbs 5ghz

    G = max rate 54 mbs 2.4 ghz

    N = max rate of 300mbs at 2.4 or 5 ghz (depending on router some labtops can achieve up to 450mbs

    I did not cover per-N or mimo or other one off's etc.

    If you can live with B rates that's great, but I paid for an N rate device I expect those rates to work properly given an up to date router. Please understand, I know the iPads are capped at 65 to 70 mbs but I do expect these rates at a reasonable range 60 to 70 ft. On the new iPads I have not seen this, yet. On the iPad2 I see consistantly.

    This is just info, nothing more or less.

    That's not data transfer.  Data transfer is measured in bps, which is 10X the Bps rate.  Hz (and MHz and GHz) is bandwidth, which is different.

    The frequencys are what the bands (A,B,G,N) are capable of running on. "A" could run on 2.4 ghz but is seldom seen except at 5ghz if at all these days.The rates are just what they are. Mega Bits per Second.

    Google any number of points of interest, here a couple, there are many more.

    I don't need Wiki.  I designed systems like this.

    Hz is not data transfer.  Data transfer is measured in bps, which is 10X the Bps rate.  Hz (and MHz and GHz) is bandwidth, which is different.

    FYI:

    Here is the wiki link for data rates and band frequencies etc.  It was just to good not to post.

    Really? So do, I what a small world. Where in my post did I put HZ or say that it was data  rate? I posted the rate and the band frequency in ghz gigahertz. Maybe I hold have put an @ between the two items or something. 40 years I've been in IT, NE, work with many tops companies such as Motorola. Do I know it?' no I don't. Do I know IT and networks , yes I do.

    I have the same problem everyone in this post is experiencing. I exchanged with another iPad hoping I get a good one but it's the same. I will exchange it again 45 days later and if it happens again, I will downgrade to ipad2.

    With Steve Jobs gone, quality control has taken a back seat at Apple. I don't think Tim Cook is a perfectionist like Steve Jobs. If next Apple product iPhone5 has issues like ipad3, Apple should fire Tim Cook.

    Hi,l'm looking at getting a lpad 3 but much concerned about wi-fi issues.

    l haven't read all the posts but do you think the door magnets might have something to do with it.
