Apr 29, 2012 2:11 PM in response to Sam Katz1by Douglas,In this case, bridge mode means that Comcast would just 'turn off' the wifi part of their combo Infinity Gateway router/modem. I checked and the Gateway and Netgear have different IP addresses.

May 1, 2012 11:16 AM in response to stlsteveby 4mal,Same boat here. This thing is lame in comparison to my iPad 1. Once my iPad 3 drops off the wifi connection, it takes an act of congress to get it back on as well. Really frustrating !

May 1, 2012 5:43 PM in response to stlsteveby Jermil05,We have all been complaining about our New ipads here on this place called "Apple Support". There are now 80 pages of over 1880 replies and over 126,000 views(!). I am absolutely confident that the real number of people with issues is much greater the number of people represented here. Don't you think it would be courteous to Apple customers for at least one Apple Support person to write something like: "We have been closely following this discussion about WiFi problems on our new iPad. We are sorry that any of you have experienced difficulty with your Apple product. Please be assured that we are working as quickly as possible to develop a fix for this problem. We appreciate your patience and support of our products."

May 1, 2012 6:19 PM in response to Jermil05by JimHdk,This is a user-to-user technical help forum. Apple does not participate here other than with moderators to control abuse of the forums. The forums are not intended for bug reporting.
This thread is not extraordinary. With each new iPad release and even each new iOS release there are long threads of how WiFi doesn't work. Note that the number of views is meaningless.
If you think that you have a problem with your new iPad the proper action is to contact Apple Support for resolution.

May 1, 2012 6:24 PM in response to JimHdkby Jermil05,Apple is a huge company. If they don't post here, how about a public acknowledgement ANYWHERE? Did they ever hear of J&J, GM or Toyota? All of them acknowledged problems and then fixed them.

May 2, 2012 4:36 AM in response to Razdadby JimHdk,FYI: The articles you are linking to are almost two an a half years old (11/2010) and refer to an old iOS level, 4.2. They also refer to a iOS level which was never released to the public (a Beta test level). The current generally released iOS level is 5.1.
This is not to say that there couldn't be a software problem causing some people problems but those articles have nothing to do with it.

May 2, 2012 7:36 AM in response to Jermil05by Mikerobe,If you have wifi problems with iPad 2 or the new iPad, and are not satisfied with the way Apple is dealing with the problem, then complain. Write to the CEO and clearly state your case.
Send a carefully constructed, typewritten letter to Cupertino by snail mail. E-mails and forum comments are unlikely to capture the attention of senior executives and even written letters will have no impact unless received in significant numbers.
Please see below a copy of what I sent to Tim Cook.

Dear Sir
iPad 2, WIFI, 32GB, Black Serial No: XXXXXXXXXX Bought 13 April 2011
This iPad 2 had issues with intermittent wifi connectivity, verified at the Genius Bar, and was replaced with Serial Id: XXXXXXXXXXX, 7th October 2011. The replacement unfortunately had exactly the same issues.
19th October 2011 the Genius bar offered a second replacement but I was reluctant to simply swap the iPad again in case the faults were replicated. I also have it confirmed in writing that the iPad could be swapped at any time before the original warranty expired in April 2012.
With a change to a very up-to-date router and checking that QoS was disabled by default the iPad 2 works perfectly acceptably on my home network.
I would like to think this is a QoS issue, and as you know Apple does not support QoS. It almost looks as if iPad 2s only work with Apple routers, or third party routers that have QoS disabled or deactivated.
Be that as it may, what is absolutely certain is that this iPad does not function properly with every third party router for instance in hotels and the dwelling houses of friends and family. What is equally certain is that my iPad 1 and an old IBM ThinkPad always work perfectly in these locations. Countless users have reported this type of behaviour; it is also impracticable to change settings of routers belonging to others.
There is a very long thread about intermittent wi-fi and iPad 2 in Apple Discussions and it is inconceivable that Apple, at executive level, is unaware of the problem despite reluctance at store level to acknowledge that such problems exist. It appears that a resolution of the iPad 2 wi-fi issues is never likely to be forthcoming.
iPad 2 has now been superseded by ‘The new iPad’ and one assumes that the iPad 2 wifi issues have not been perpetuated. As a ‘mobile device’ my ipad 2 is a failure. I have no wish to replace one iPad 2 with another with potentially the same drawbacks, but I would be happy to try an iPad 3.
May I therefore request that you consider supplying me with a free, complimentary iPad 3 as recompense for the difficulty, trouble and anxiety generated by iPad 2.
Please let me know if you require a sight of any of the paperwork, which I could bring in at your convenience. And if you think it is above your pay grade to sanction the above request please escalate the matter to national level and if necessary to Cupertino.
Yours faithfully
XXXXXXXX

May 2, 2012 10:16 PM in response to stlsteveby Razdad,l read this in an online article.
Wi-fi 3rd gen ipads are only affected, not the 4G LTE models because of the
extra network power allowed by the black rubber cut out on the top of the unit.
Does anyone here have the 4G LTE and have any wi-fi problems?
l'm tossing up wether to get myself a new lpad 3.

May 3, 2012 7:11 AM in response to stlsteveby 4mal,Yep. Wifi and 4g here. The 4g portion is solid. The wifi still *****. No where near how well my 1st gen iPad works.
