It's not the router! No update will solve this issue! Apple really screwed up big time!
I would like to see one that doesn't. I've tested 25+ iPads, and every single one had the death grip.
I tested every iPad in every Apple store and Best Buy that I could find. They all suffered from it.
I had 8 or 9 different iPads before giving up due to screen issues. They all suffered from it.
I've tested all the new iPads that various friends own. They all suffer from it.
The degree of suffering changed based on my location in relation to the router. If I was near my router, it didn't really matter how I held it. If I got a little bit farther away, then how it was held made all the difference.
This thread is full of outrageous claims and just pure bunk.
Anyone should know that if you are in an area of marginal WiFi reception and you place your hand over the area of the iPad where the WiFi antenna is located that you will block and reduce the strength of the WiFi signal. This is simple physics and proves nothing.
I think that the big problem that people have is that the marginal area is a lot closer to the router for the new iPad than it is for the original iPad, the iPad 2, and a number of other devices. You went through 81 pages of this thread and came to the conclusion that it is "pure bunk"? That's hilarious. Sure there are some non-issues floating around here, but there are also a number of real issues.
Steve Jobs main objective in creating Apple products is to make it simple and easy to use for people who are technologically challenged. Needlesstosay, that is the vast majority of worlds population. That is why Apple is so popular. Some techies use it because we are tired of devise crashes for everyday simple tasks. I give high praise to Steve Jobs for creating great products but I get frustrated many times because of limitations I encounter when using iPad.
Point I'm trying to make is that vast majority of Apple users do not even realize they have a problem with wifi issue, screen issues, battery issue, just to name a few. Everyday average folks would not notice issues we techies are encountering. If vast majority of iPad users were pc and android users, there would be whole lot more on this discussion forum.
Final point, Steve Jobs was a perfectionist. Not perfect but he tried. After his passing, this ipad3 has so many issues Steve Jobs would never allow to go into production. I think future Apple products will also encounter design flaws and issues. I am betting future stock price will go down unless they get another perfectionist in CEO position.

No, it isn't hilarious it pretty boring. Yes, I've posted on the thread an have followed it pretty closely. It's quite possible that some people may have hardware problems with their iPads. The correct action to take in this case is to contact Apple support to get the problem corrected. Posting on this thread won't result in any solution.

Totally agree with you. My experience is exactly same. Also, my daughters Nintendo dsi has much better wifi reception. When my iPad picks up 3 signals, her dsi picks up 6 or more signals.
I think Apple told some employees to make positive remarks on the discussion forum to confuse and bring some doubts to some readers.
I'm not just trying to bash Apple. But all the Silicon Valley companies think we are so stupid and people will believe whatever is posted by someone. Mark zerkerberg of Facebook said it himself "people are so stupid".
That may be true for most folks but we know how to test the product and we know what is truth and what is a BS. I tend to believe majority of positive post are from Apple employees or from hard core devoted Apple fans who tends to overlook the negatives over positives.
Apple does not post in these forums. Everyone posting here is a user.
Regarding your comparison of the iPad versus Nintendo: some devices are coded to show all wiFi signals received including the very weak and unusable. The iPad only shows WiFi access points that have a useable signal.
If you feel that you have a WiFi problem contact Apple support for a solution. Posting here will not help you.
So seems like you're one of those Apple employees or hard core fanatic. How can you spend so much time in this forum if you don't work for Apple or are you unemployed? I guess you were amazed by your experience with Apple tech support. My experience was also amazing but not what you think. I was amazed how little they know about their own product and technology in general. Tech guy at guenis bar did not even know the amount of rom memory in iPad. Instead of acknowledging the problems I had, only thing he did was to reset the system to factory default. I asked other tech guys to see if I can get someone who's more knowledgeable but no one could answer some questions I had. Finally, I opened up crash and low memory reports on display models. They were all speechless. Either they didn't know the answer or they didn't want to get fired.
This was my first time stepping into Apple store and As I was walking out of Apple store in Irvine, I realized all these employees are all in late teens or early 20's and they all have the same appearance of zombies following orders from upper management.

This is a user-to-user technical help forum. No Apple employees are posting here. Many people volunteer their time to help other users with problems. I happened to be retired after working in computer networking for over 35 years. Read what the point of the forum is in the community overview. Accusing anyone who doesn't conform to your Apple-bashing agenda of being an Apple employee or fanatic is ridiculous. This sort of thing is characteristic of a troll.
You originally reported that you had the same problem as "everyone" else in the forum when you joined the forum on April 20th. Since there have been many, many sorts of problems reported in this thread that is rather imprecise. You also reported that you exchanged your "defective" iPad for another which had the same problem. It that is true it strongly points to a problem with your network or configuration.
At least a few of us got on to this site after talking to Apple help. I changed my router and it made no difference on my iPad reception. The Apple helper had me change all kinds of settings on the new router but I still only get a full signal standing no more than 8 or so feet away. He admitted I had a legitimate issue.
In the last 90 days in a few hotels, with WiFi, I had to go to the lobby to get a usable signal. My other Apple computers and PCs do not have the reception problem in my house.
This story have been reported buy others on this site. There is no use exchanging for new iPads, if you’re in a large city, because apparently others have tried.
It is clear this site is if of little use with this problem. I figured I’d give it some more time and Contact Apple again.
