May 7, 2012 12:47 PM in response to stlsteveby DjShine88,My new ipad has been running perfectly since i got it.
Does that mean i don't know better Pogle1??
For one - the death grip situation is also apparent in the ipad 2.
I have the ipad 2 32GB 3G and it has a death grip problem, and my new ipad does have it but that doesn't mean it's non functioning.
In fact my new ipad has faster internet than my ipad 2. And it's wifi only.
Obviously i agree with a lot of people with the fact that there are good and bad batches all around. Mine was bought from Sunion in Hong Kong.

May 7, 2012 1:00 PM in response to stlsteveby Mike95,There is an update to iOS 5.1.1 available. Hopefully this update should increase the signal strength of the wifi (be it by giving it more power or however) for those who have issues.
-
May 7, 2012 1:04 PM in response to Mike95by Drathbun,The update 5.1.1 notes:
This update contains improvements and bug fixes, including:
• Improves reliability of using HDR option for photos taken using the Lock Screen shortcut
• Addresses bugs that could prevent the new iPad from switching between 2G and 3G networks
• Fixes bugs that affected AirPlay video playback in some circumstances
• Improved reliability for syncing Safari bookmarks and Reading List
• Fixes an issue where 'Unable to purchase' alert could be displayed after successful purchase
It doesn't look like WiFi is addressed at all.

May 7, 2012 1:58 PM in response to Drathbunby Usmaak,It might be. Even if they didn't list it. Best way to find out is to load it and see if it fixes or improves the issues.

May 7, 2012 1:59 PM in response to Mike95by Trungttr,I just updated to the latest update.
And it seems like the wifi connection is alot faster. I do not now if it´s just me how imagine this.
Are there anybode else that has the same experience?
-
May 7, 2012 2:56 PM in response to Trungttrby Jermil05,I just dl'ed the update and can't wait to get home to see if the wifi is improved.
I completely agree that they could have fixed the problem and never mention it. It would be pretty typical for them actually. Then they never had to acknowledge it in any way.

Not bashing folks that are happy as clams with their new iPad, just pointing out that mine struggled to get half the speed of my iPad1 when held in the same way at the same distance from the router.. Closer to the router, it is far superior for all the reasons you describe.. I suspect that most people, especially 1st time Apple users, wont find big issues here, unless they are more discerning. Congratulations on your getting a "good one"..

May 7, 2012 4:45 PM in response to Jermil05by Jermil05,Just got home and tried the iPad with the new update.
No change at all.
This is not good. It suggests the problem couldn't be remedied with an easy fix.

May 7, 2012 6:43 PM in response to stlsteveby rgarjr,I'm curious to see what this new update does with the pi55 poor Wifi reception. Keep posting your results.

May 7, 2012 8:30 PM in response to rgarjrby JTZ12,On my third 32gb wifi only, dropouts all the time. Still shows wifi bars, just times out. Upgraded router, changed wifi type, etc. New software update didn't do anything to solve this. Seems that there is no solution...

May 8, 2012 11:45 AM in response to stlsteveby superzat,I have a 16 gb black + 4G and a white 16 gb wifi only.
Black show 1 bar less then white and as you move away from router dropouts while the other does not, and it has faster internet
Update didn't fix it

May 8, 2012 2:46 PM in response to superzatby Sam Katz1,The most logical thing to do is to turn off cellular data in settings-->network. Report back if this fixes the problem. Note that this is for diagnosis purposes only, and is not a permanent solution, or a permenant setting.

May 8, 2012 2:53 PM in response to JTZ12by Sam Katz1,Please tell me what router you are using, manufacturer and model.
I have never had any trouble with linksys routers connecting to ipads or of course airports. If it is only the one router, it may be time to replace it. My current theory is that some draft N or "rangemax plus" (ie. not using standard wifi) routers may be incompatible.
You may want to post in a forum specific to your router manufacturer, or call up your router manufacturer for advice.
Edit: Netgear says that they use range extending technology. So does Linksys sometimes. Only Netgear's is problematic. Changing the mode helps some, but not consistently and not all routers are problematic. I buy refurbished and used so my experience may not match yours.
Although I have not tested it, it is my hunch that Netgear's open source router line is compatible with the new ipad. If somebody could test it or similar open source models that would be great. (if you want to go with netgear)

May 8, 2012 3:01 PM in response to stlsteveby mic_mn,I have just bought 3 new iPads, 64GB +4G. We are using them in Wifi with different routers, in different cities, different countries. we have very poor wifi reception and you can see it from the quality of our Skype/FaceTime calls. Using our MacBookPros and/or iPhones on the same router makes the quality of the communication great.
I am not satisfied with this.
It's a great tablet. I am an Apple enthusiast. But I paid 3 iPads with my pocket money (2 of them were presents) and I feel a little bit scr*w*d. These products are "Internet" focused. They can fail with some silly games, they cannot fail in their connectivity with the net.
