Q: Poor wifi reception on new iPad

I am in a hotel with my laptop and new ipad3. The laptop wifi reception is as strong as it gets, but the iPad only registers a weak signal. Anyone else having similar problems? Any suggestions?

HeathClif, really, I thought you were smarter and knew how to use and read the forums. My response, not that I care, was not to ray68.

I guess you assume that if the response is below someone's it must be responding to that post. It is not like that my clueless friend.  Look at the date and time and in parantheses will say (in response to *****).

Everyone get it now?  Do you get it HeathClif?

Now, since you are Mr. sensitivity here, what better advise to give someone that is always complaining about their device?  You are not smart enough or able to use a direct approach, so as not to offend people that I don't know and sound like whiners to me, than to tell them the truth, without niceties, to return the thing and buy a different tablet?  They seem to never be happy, so why should you nor I waste our time.  Sorry, you like wasting time!

I am doing them, myself, and a whole bunch other people that express the same feelings as I, by telling it like it is.  You, keep on cuddling them and see how far that get you resolving any of their issues.

I tried some of the work arounds but no real change, we'll see if apple addresses this at all.  I am past my return window so I am kinda stuck with this thing.

Have you tried to discharge it all the way down untill it goes off by itself?  Then recharge it overnight with the ipad off.  Once you plug it in, go back in and turn the ipad actually off and let it recharge overnight.

My new ipad recharges in between 5-1/2 to 6 hours.

Now, why do you say that you will have a $800 picture frame?  Is someone stopping you from returning it if it is not working to your satisfaction? This is what I am talking about.  I understand some of you having problems but nobody will feel sorry that you have a $800 picture frame when you do nothing about!

Again, how many of the posters here having battery issues, have taken the time to read the users guide and try to learn something on their own before posting in the forums asking questions?  Wouldn't that make you feel better by finding your own solution sometimes?  I mean, it is a da*** reading device also!!!

It seems like you're just trolling here and you are the one doing the complaining. People have come here with legitimate problems looking for a solution. If you've noticed there is several threads all pertaining to the same wireless connection problems. You have offered no advice nor any productive input apart from accusing people of being constant complainers when many of the posters are brand new as am i.

No problem. I didn't see the point of making wild statements accusing people of being constant complainers. If you have a problem with an Apple product I'd expect this to be the first port of call. So Alaska's logic is flawed, assuming people should look elsewhere before even attempting a post here. It doesn't make sense.

(@ Jayed1)  (this is for you HeathClif so as not to get you confuse again!) ...LOL

Let me see, have you gone to an Apple store and told them that their product is defective and want your money back?

The new ipad is only a little over 4 weeks old, I am sure that they will refund your money.  But at least you have to try first instead of complaining.

Make you a bet, a free bet.  If you do not get your money back.  I will do it for you.  We'll get offliine and discuss it.  You send me your ipad, box, etc., the receipt, and I guarantee you that you will have your refund within three days of me receiving your ipad.

I won't charge you anything for my troubles, not even for gas.  My closest Apple store is 35 miles away!

Give it a try, go to the store, you will be surprise at the results.

I don't want a refund, mine is working perfectly. I'm here to offer some help after discovering a fix for the problem I was having which seems to be happening to others. A few people have had success with the fix I offered and some have not.

People could take their iPads back but the problems would still remain.

I tried out my wife's six month old iPad 2 sitting in the same location with the iPad in landscape orientation as the location in which I was having problems last night.  Her iPad 2 showed the same drop in signal as my new iPad does.  It also showed a similar drop in download speed.  As with mine, if I hold hers in portrait orientation, the problem goes away, and she gets full download.  So I tried another experiment on mine.  Currently, I have one of the Apple SmartCovers with one of the plastic shells that snaps on to the back.  I have a couple of other iPad 2 cases lying around, including this one:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004Q7KTF4/ref=oh_o02_s00_i00_details

    Some pictures:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/B004Q7KTF4/ref=dp_image_0?ie=UTF8&n=5419 66&s=pc

So I decided to give it a try.  I took the shell and the smart cover off of my iPad and put it into the Bear Motion case.  This is a full leather case that covers the entire iPad, except for the buttons and the camera.  When I hold it in landscape orientation, it shows no signal loss at all, and I get full download speed where I was getting half download speed when I had the shell and smart cover on.  Even gripping it tightly (not a normal  position, but for the sake of the whole "death grip" thing, I gave it a try), it shows no loss of signal at all.

The only difference is that when I just have the smart cover and plastic shell on, my hand is actually touching the front of the iPad while holding it.  With the Bear Motion case, my hand doesn't touch any of the iPad at all.  So it seems like in cases where people are having the landscape orientation issue, it might just be touching the iPad that is causing the problem.

Got my new Ipad3 replacement today. Went thru backup, restore etc and then booted up with great expectation. Sadly the result is the same. I still lose reception when I put my hand on the bottom Left corner in Landscape mode. I can work around this by removing case and holding upside down and will do so until Apple acknowledges the issue and provides a fix.

I was in the Apple store today.  I tried it on a few of the samples that they had out on the floor, and I could reproduce it on all of the ones that I tried.  I'm not sure if there's a software fix that is possible for this issue.  It might just be one of those things that you have to tolerate if you want one.  Though I know that there have been people in here saying that they can't reproduce the issue on theirs.

(Since so many of you do not understand how answers flow here, this is in response to Jayed1)

How do you figure that my logic is "flawed?  Because is not what you like to hear.   My point is simple, have any of you read the users manual before posting an issue and looking for an answer?

Some of you are saying that you will have a $800 picture frame, it seems to any reasonable person that you would not like to keep such an expensive frame, right?  So I gave advice on what to do which is to return it.

Now you are saying that you don't want to return it.  So what is it?

I never said return it and get another ipad, I have said that if you guys are so unhappy and your solutions do not seem to be permanent, I have told all of you in that boat, to return the ipad and get a different brand tablet.  Go with android and good riddance.

That is the only way you guys will be happy.  If you don't do that, you guys will spend all your time trying a so-called "death grip", checking how many bars your wireless have, sitting with a thermometer by your side doing stress tests and checking the temperature, instead of enjoying your new ipad like the rest of us.

I am trying to make it easy on you, but you are too closed minded and hard headed to listen.  So, keep banging your head against the wall, I will not be the one with the headache!

I think you are on to something here. Certainly it worked for me. I tried removing my smart cover and put the ipad3 into an old IPad1 cover. Then I held it in the bottom corner with no signal loss. Seems the Ipad3 doesnt like being touched whilst naked. Interested in other peoples experience on this. I think Im off to a store to buy a different cover and return my smart ( or not so smart) cover.

Unfortunate in that I love my white iPad.  But with it in a full case, it's hard to tell that it's white.

This Bear Motion case is really thick, which is why my wife didn't like it for her iPad 2.  I know that there are some iPad 3 cases making their way to the stores now.  I may try to see if I can find a thinner case that still does the trick.  I'm hoping that it doesn't need to be too thick.

I guess another positive is that no matter what case I end up with, it will probably be cheaper than the black leather smart cover and plastic shell.
