Apr 3, 2012 7:55 PM in response to Alaska99801by Jayed1,Your logic is flawed. You said to look somewhere else before coming here to post. This is the first place most people would come to since it's the Apple supports forum and they have a problematic Apple product. People bought the iPad because they did not want an Android tablet. It's more than reasonable to raise some questions here about specific problems with your product. If you have no problems why do you continue to bash people for asking for some kind of guidance? Not everyone is tech savvy so other decent people try to help them out. You can read the manual back to front it will not solve this specific problem.

Apr 3, 2012 8:05 PM in response to Jayed1by Alaska99801,Really, what does the manual say about the battery and charging, and people keep asking the same questions about it?
What does the manual say about wifi and did you implemented it before you came here asking for it?
If you people have a technical problem, the place to be is at Apple care or the store. They can help you and if there is truly a problem by doing that it would be reported up the chain and then Apple could do something about it. But crying and whining here does not get you anything but my laugh.
You don't know how much fun I am having with all these (nto all) fiction writers. "My ipad was so hot that I had to drop it and the screen cracked". Sound like whodunit to me!! LOL.

Apr 3, 2012 8:18 PM in response to Alaska99801by Jayed1,The problem can't be fixed by reading the manual. It's either a software bug or a hardware problem. It's not just here where people are discussing the Wifi problems. It's on sites will long time Apple users with experience with Apple devices. You seem to think everyone here doesn't know how to set up a wireless connection with their device. That isn't the case. As i've said numerous times, the problem cannot be fixed by reading the manual or with knowledge of wireless routers and Apple devices.

Apr 3, 2012 8:27 PM in response to Jayed1by Alaska99801,So what did I say to do? Keep on calling Apple Care and going to the store until it gets solved. Writing here is not doing none of that.

Apr 3, 2012 8:36 PM in response to Tgildingby Usmaak,I think that it is definitely contact with the uncovered front of the iPad that is causing it. The Bear Motion case works well. But if I touch the exposed area around the home button with my thumb, the signal drops a bar, and my download speed is cut in half. And it only happens in landscape orientation. If I touch the same location with it in portrait orientation, it does not drop at all.
Very weird. I wonder where the antenna is located in these things.

Apr 3, 2012 8:39 PM in response to Usmaakby mlwkdw,According to several teardown reports, the wifi antenna is behind the Apple logo.

Apr 3, 2012 9:37 PM in response to stlsteveby Eng Saleh,i have wifi signal problem on my new ipad 4g, if im near from router signal ok but if go some far 5 meter lose signal also if i try to use in hotel by wifi no siganal but my iphone working good in same area
i need to know this hardware problem or software

Apr 4, 2012 5:38 AM in response to mlwkdwby Usmaak,Interesting. I would have expected it to be near the bottom left corner when held in landscape orientation, just because of the loss of signal when touching by there. I really wonder why mine only loses signal when held landscape and touched in the bottom left side. Makes no sense.

Apr 4, 2012 6:30 AM in response to Usmaakby It_caveman,I posted the links to the antenna placement in both the iPad 3 and the iPad 2 way back in posts. Here they are again:

Ipad3
Just for fun here is the original iPad

Only the original iPad had the antenna behind the logo. See for yourself.

Apr 4, 2012 7:21 AM in response to It_cavemanby Usmaak,I can't get to that site because of filters at work. Is the antenna located in the bottom left when held in landscape?

Apr 4, 2012 7:39 AM in response to stlsteveby j-picard,I also noticed that if i take my ipad 3 about 30+ feet from the airport extreme and put my hand tightly over the ipad near the home button, the wifi signal/bar indicator decreases. Then it again, it also does so for my ipod touch.
I'd assume that if you cover any wifi device with a solid object such as a hand directly over its antenna, it will be affected. Those of us old enough to remember having to manipulate antenae on our TVs before cable television came out can understand that solid objects will affect radio signals. Is this really such a big deal?
If I move my hand slightly, the signal re-establishes at full power.
Is there something more to this than I'm getting?

Apr 4, 2012 8:08 AM in response to Usmaakby It_caveman,Looks that way , they are on the sides or edges.

Apr 4, 2012 8:11 AM in response to j-picardby Usmaak,My only problem with it is that it is in a location where I naturally rest my hand when holding it in landscape orientation. On the iPad 1, apparently the antenna is located behind the Apple logo. No matter what I do to that thing, I can't get the signal to drop down. On my wife's iPad 2, I can. So I am guessing (just a guess, because I cannot see the teardown images posted above) that the antenna is in the same or a similar location.
I just wish that it was in a different location. One that made more sense for holding it in landscape.

Apr 4, 2012 8:12 AM in response to stlsteveby utrph77004,Since day 1, the new iPad I bought on 3/16 (which is a 64 GB Verizon LTE model) has had problems connecting to the 5 GHz band WiFi at my home, but no problems with my regular 2.4 GHz band. However, that being said, my iPad 2 previously, had this exact same issue, but ONLY after I upgraded it to iOS 5.0, and ever since then (no changes in 5.0.1 or 5.1).
My iPad 2 with 4.3 had no issues connecting to my 5 GHz WiFi connection, but after upgrading to iOS 5 (and ever since then...) the signal was very flaky. Sometimes it would connect fine, to only have it drop the signal 15 minutes later. I got so frustrated with it, that I told my iPad to "Forget that network" and only connect to my 2.4 GHz band. I don't like to do this "work around" as I have only a few 5 GHz devices, and would prefer my fastest connection available, but until Apple's iOS team figures out what happened in iOS 5 to kill/weaken the signal received, I'm afraid we are all stuck. :/
