Q: Poor wifi reception on new iPad

I am in a hotel with my laptop and new ipad3. The laptop wifi reception is as strong as it gets, but the iPad only registers a weak signal. Anyone else having similar problems? Any suggestions?

Yes it was for a "supposed leaked document" and I agree. That's the main reason I posted the link so anyone could read it and decide for themselves. Thanks....

Alright Phil, let's be reasonable, does anyone hold their ipad with a death grip as they normally go about doing whatever they do on their ipad?

Do you drive your car with the emergency brake on and then go to Ford, Chevy, etc. , and tell them that your car does not go fast?

I am just trying to be reasonable on the "death grip" issue.

    @Jermil05

Thank you.  I read it last night.  But you know the one bunch here will not believe you.  But again thank you.

Yes and no.  I usually don't hold it that way, but only because I "kick back", and much of the weight rests on my stomach.  I was holding it that way enough to notice occasional drop-offs in signal, but assumed it was just routine wireless problems (I hate wireless reliability).  This will be more of a problem, as I use it more; use to-date has been *very* limited due to a busy work schedule, where I use my PC.

Frankly, this is becoming the "last straw" with Apple for me.  I've had enough problems with quirky iPods, iTunes and now the iPad that this will probably be my last Apple purchase.

Alright, fair enough.  Do you have any other brand of electronics?  Because when someone comes out and says I am done with x,y,z, we tend to lose sight that we also have problems with others too.

I have a 8.9" Galaxy Tab with Honeycomb 3.2.  How many times have I had to reset it?  Enough.  Does it get "hot" when I plug it in and try to use at the same time? Yes.  Am I giving up on Samsung?  Of course not, why?  Because it is not rational.  They do not try to make bad products, and you seem like an educated man and should know that.

Let's talk about light leakage.  So some ipads have light leakage.  Who makes the screen for the ipad?  Samsung.  Apple engineer verified that screen panels passed their tests (it's the reason why Sharp panels are not in the ipad right now), but troughout the manufacturing process something goes just a bit off.  Who is to blame?

A very simple question but my friend a very complicated answer because it is not as simple as black and white.  Do you see my point?

Good luck getting a good one in the future.

I'm having the same problem.  My Mac, Iphone, husband's older Ipad all fine. Heck my $99 HP tablet has no problems keeping the signal in the same area of the house.  Very dissapointed to say the least!

I just got my Ipad 3 and join a wireless network and have it remember the network is probably one of the worst experiences ever. I have the Ipad 1 & 2 and have never had a problem with the same networks eventually after about 15 minutes of turning on and off the wireless rebooting the device it finally grabs the wireless but this is very frustrating. Any suggestions?

Yes, compromise (read: shoddy quality) is very common these days in our increasingly complex world.  My iPad is actually "flawless" except for what I now believe to be an antenna design-defect.  No light-leakage, bad pixels, etc.

Still, I'm pretty careful not to buy products with design problems.  I really wanted a $1,500 laptop with 1920x1080, but decided to wait until the market "sorts itself out".  I really don't like the "cloud" nature of iPads/Droids/Chromebooks (I'll keep my data locally, thank-you!), but thought I'd "give it a shot".  After doing the research, and finding Apple's tablets were considered "the best", I decided to take a risk and pre-order. My mistake.

As for Apple products, I've had bad luck with 2G Nanos, 2G iTouches, iTunes.  My iPod Classic and my daughter's iTouch are flawless, though.  For a few years, Apple did the best job for the "portable media-player" devices I wanted.  I think the "tides are shifting" now, though; tablets & ultrabooks will probably displace "portable media players", except for use in the gym.

I'm just very upset right now.  I knew better than to buy "sight-unseen", but I was in a hurry.  Live and learn.  I do hope Windoze 8 and more powerful tablets prove viable, since I hate the "tethered cloud/iTunes" nature of the iPad.  For today, though, I seem to have backed myself into a corner, so I'm not happy.

    Grrrrrrr

I've got the "death-grip" problem (I contend until there is a "rev B" of the WiFi-only hardware, everyone will), but I didn't have your problem.  I just entered-in my horribly long SSID & password (for security reasons), and it had ZERO problems: except for the "death grip" (grrrrrrrrrrrrrr).

Hey, good news (for me anyway)!

At the risk of showing how new I am to iPads, I just figured-out that I can do a "180", and have the "home" button on the right side.  Problem solved!  Since I point with the right, and hold with the left, I "take back" my prior concerns! The "death grip" area becomes the upper right corner, so "who cares"!

Hopefully the more experienced "iPad folks" will forgive my transgression; I bought my case before the iPad, and the natural way to insert hold the case (for me) was with the "home" button on the left.  I had locked the rotate, so I never stumbled over this.

Anyway, for anyone like me who is just "looking for problems" (before the warranty runs out), please note that at least in my case, my 16G Wifi only is "flawless" as long as you're OK with the home button on the right!

Many sincere thanks for the patience of the more "faithful" here as I worked-through a rather frustrating issue for myself...

Just to go on record I am on my second ipad 3 since launch in March. Same problem with second ipad- poor or no wifi reception when all other devices including two ipad 2's have good wifi. Bought the first from Apple. Returned it and was refunded. Bought second locally, and about to return it.

Is this bad luck? Buying two with the same problem. Or is this a bigger problem then they want to admit. I want to keep it. Love the display.
