Apr 5, 2012 4:09 PM in response to PhilMan99by mikedMA,I'm new to IPAD's as well however I've got 2 IPhone 4's and 2 IPOD Touches in my household and this hardware doesn't seem to have the WIFI connectivity issue that my new IPAD 3 has. Was considering getting a signal booster for the Verizon Actiontec FIOS router I have but now not so sure. Grabbing the first run of a new product is always risky.

I'm an iPad newbie, so welcome to the club!
Funny that you brought this up. I typically have the Home button on the right when I'm charging - the path to the outlet is to my right when I sit in my favorite spot on the couch. Also, I'm left-handed, so I typically hold the iPad with my right hand and interact with my left hand. The "death grip" is not a natural hand position for me. So, Home on left - I hold with my right hand. Home on right, the "offending area" - as you pointed out - is in the upper right corner.

At the risk of being "excessively detail-oriented", using the iPad while charging is "bad mojo" for the battery. In reading about how to get the most battery-life (years, not hours), it was noted that chargers have a *very* hard time regulating charge while the device is used. That's "bad mojo" for the battery.
Could mean 6-18 months of battery-life in the long-run; just speculating...

Good point. I left out some details that will put your mind at ease. When I charge the unit, I typically plug it in on my way to bed - Home button to the right. So, when I grab it the next day (sans charging cord, as it's too short anyway), I have it on my lap with the Home button on the right - I don't make a point of flipping it (no real need to, as you've discovered).
Thanks for the tip!

Apr 5, 2012 4:57 PM in response to stlsteveby D1h5b,I've had an iPad (original) since they were released and never had any type of issue with wifi. I decided to purchase the "new" iPad and can't be more then 15 feet away from router. If I am I have no Internet response at all...

Apr 5, 2012 5:43 PM in response to stlsteveby docfink,My new white, 32GB wifi-only version is having the same issue.
In one particular area of my house, my generation-one iPads work without any trouble, but the new one has trouble accessing the strong wifi signal. Surfing performance suffers intermittently.
The most annoying issue? The worst reception is in my bedroom, where I'll read things before sleeping. My router is only about 30-40 feet away, too.

Apr 5, 2012 7:18 PM in response to stlsteveby DjShine88,Ok... I've tested more thoroughly today... While there is a deathgrip situation going on with both ipad 2 and 3, it doesn't affect me as a bad as some of the users here...
Most users are claiming that it has problems remembering wifi networks, dropping connection and losing download... Mine hasn't had that just as of yet...
I don't want to be too cocky just in case cos if i take it home from Hong Kong, and it does have wifi problems at home then i'll be pretty darned embarrassed...
So far i am reporting that mine doesn't have a problem as such... Will let u guys know if there are any arising...

Apr 5, 2012 7:25 PM in response to montanaguyby Usmaak,Not bad luck. I am on my third. Though I returned the other two for various display issues, they all displayed the same weak WiFi, particularly when held in landscape. I am thinking the same thing though. I love the display so much that I'll probably end up keeping it. Or at least trying again after my 45 days is up if they don't come up with some sort of software fix or if a new batch doesn't show the same weakness. I was playing with my original iPad tonight because the new one was charging, and the display looks so bad in comparison to the new one. I could probably get used to it again, but I don't know if I want to.

Apr 5, 2012 7:35 PM in response to stlsteveby kmr2,Piling on a bit, but I tried two new iPads before giving up and going back to the iPad2. Too long to explain here, but I even took a video of the difference between iPad2 wifi (working fine) and new iPad wifi (not working fine.) Can read the more detailed account (and see the vid) here, if it helps: http://reethink.com/2012/tools-and-services/new-ipad-is-to-the-ipad2-what-vista- was-to-xp/
Would love to get a real technical explanation to the issue. Saw some posts further up about possible issues with WEP - could that be it?

Apr 5, 2012 7:40 PM in response to kmr2by Usmaak,I am not sure where you're at, but I think that places like Best Buy and Target are still selling 32 GB iPad 2s. They're still around if you have one of those sources available.
I'd like a technical explanation too. And a fix would be nice also.
