Song transfer interrupts when addnl songs are added during transfer process

I just updated to 10.6 and noticed an irritating quirk. When adding music to my new iPad by the hundreds, I discovered that if I add more songs to the queue as it's transferring, it stops doing that and transfers only what I just added.

This is annoying for a myriad of reasons, but in the short term it requires that I add songs to a playlist before I transfer them, and heaven forbid I stumble across an additional song while it's syncing.

I have a ticket in with Apple, but is there anyone else who's encountered this? And if so, is it just my system acting weird? or are we recieving the BOHICA from Apple?

Hi fblack2,

I am having the very same problem and it is indeed very annoying. I am trying to transfer several albums to my iPod Touch, then I find another one that i want to transfer. Copy it over and the previous transfer gets stopped.

Did you get a response from Apple, have they fixed it for you?

It appears as though the only solution at this moment is to create a playlist of all the songs you want on your device from within iTunes (Create an iTunes playlist) and then transfer them en mass to the waiting idevice. Since interrupting the process clearly a no-no. Btw is is not just isolated to music, it's the same situation on books as well.

Hopefully this gets fixed for the WWDC in June!

So I just got off the phone with Apple Support and explained my issue. I wanted to email the problem but wound up having them call me. The "support" guy basically told me that I was syncing wrong and I should always wait for the first batch to finish before adding additional ones. He told me that it always has worked that way and interupution would be expected if adding anything new. I explained this has never been an issue for myself and others before 10.6 and I was told that I was wrong. So that was really helpful.

At this point Apple wants everyone to sync from the cloud and I seriously doubt they're looking at manually issues related to iTunes. All I want is for this issue to at least be recognized but that doesn't sound like it will be the case. Hopefully someone has better luck than me.

While both saddened and irritated that this issues exists in the first place, I am heartened to know that I am in good company. I know I shouldn't be too hopeful that this issue gets addressed at WWDC, but it would be nice. I love iTunes, but it may be time to refresh it. Perhaps building in level settings for beginners, intermediate, and advanced users. Where you can decide how much control you want over (I don't know, little things) like transferring music, setting up Match, Ping, format settings, and converting songs to ringtones - which by the way should be a RMC feature.

Sigh...We grudgingly accept getting the BOHICA for the users of the future. Imagine how awesome it will be in 5 years!
