Apr 5, 2012 2:09 PM in response to antoinemazby KRDHarris,There appears to have been a battery management problem introduced in iOS 5.1. My iPad 2's battery management quite suddenly deteriorated after installiong iOS 5.1, and I found two things:
(1) The contents of iOS 5.1 include "Addresses bugs affecting battery life"
(2) Other people reported the same problem after installing iOS 5.1. Try googling on "ipad slow battery charging" and you will find several threads, such as athttps://discussions.apple.com/thread/3789887?start=0&tstart=0
I do not understand how Apple could have made changes to battery management and not discovered in their testing that they had made matters worse.

Apr 23, 2012 5:17 PM in response to KRDHarrisby nianfong,I have an iPad2, received on xmas of 2011. Been working fine for a while.
Today, it was at 24%, so I plugged it into my desktop PC to charge. It charged for a while, but now it's at 30% and it won't charge anymore. It says "Not Charging" on the upper right by the batt indicator.
When I plug the USB cable in, it makes the chirp, the battery icon has the little lightning bolt, but then it immediately it says "Not Charging." I plug my iphone in with the same cable, and it charges no problem.
I've tried hard resetting twice, no change. I tried resetting all settings once, no change. This seems like a software issue, or an ipad charge circuit/power connector issue. I tried multiple USB cables and they all exhibit the same Not Charging issue.
Any idea how to fix this? Or should I just take this to the apple store?

May 7, 2012 7:07 PM in response to bebodywiseby courtapple,Take it back to store of purchase for advice. Chances are that if they can't help you they will either replace, refund or send it away to Apple. I'd assume that they would send it away, considering yours is 1st gen iPad. If it was the latest, the first two options might be possible.

Aug 29, 2013 1:20 PM in response to antoinemazby geoffreyfromcambridge,my iPad charging problem went away when I realised that there are different chargers - one could not provide enough power - I think it was the fatter one which works
