By reading other posts on the matter, you need to have the iPad 3 turned OFF for the battery to charge.
i have the same problem with my
Do all iPad 3's have to be off for them to charge? Turned it off and have it plugged in now hoping this works.
i mean using the computer
Mine doesn't even charge or indicate charge plugged into outlet. Plugged my iPad 1 just to see if plug is faulty but it charges fine using the same plug.

From reading other posts on the matter, it is due to the increased size AND capacity of the iPad 3 battery.

Your post doesn't make sense. Does it charge only when it is turned off or not? Is it normal for it not to indicate it is not charging even when plugged into a working wall outlet?
If you are using the 10W wall charger that came with it, the iPad does not have to be off to charge. If you are charging thru your omputer or USB hub, then Yes, the iPad has to be off to charge and it will take much longer to charge.
So I guess this means my new Pad 3 is dead on arrival. This *****!
"Hard reset" is not a term used with iOS devices, se let's make sure it's nt a software issue.
Try to Reset your device:
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears (ignore the Slide to Power Off option that shows up first).
If that doesn't help, try a Restore.
Restore instruction:

Recovery mode restore if needed:

If still not charging, take it to the nearest Apple Store, they'll check it and likely replace it on the spot. Just FYI, you have 14 days to return it.
Did both of these before posting. I have had all the different ipads models for the last 3 years. So a hard reset is just my way of saying it. Thanks but I doubt they will replace it right there if they are all sold out.
I will return it tomorrow and see what happens.
thank man that solved my problem.....
Had it plugged in now for 24 hours and only 85% with it off and plugged into wall outlet with the charge that came with it.
I believe apple has an issue that will soon be discovered.
I'm having an issue charging it with my mac. it keeps giving me "this device does not support charging" error message.
and i had an issue ONCE with charging it on the wall, i wiggled the cable around and it worked.
so it's acting a little weird. i think my cable is faulty - not the ipad.
Have the same problems
Have tried to hard reset, restore etc.
The problem is that it doesn't start charging when I connect the cable from the charger. It will charge using the computer thougt.
Have just found out that it will start charging if I connect the cable to the ipad before plugging in the charger!
Hope it helps
