    Hi ...

Click the Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click About This Mac. See: Version

Snow Leopard v10.6 requires an Intel processor. The PBookG4 is PowerPC so you can't upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.

    iPhone minimum requirements:

    • Apple ID (required for some features)
    • Internet access5
    • Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
    • Mac: OS X v10.5.8 or later
    • PC: Windows 7; Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 3 or later
    • iTunes 10.5 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)

OS X 10.5 Leopard is no longer available from Apple. One source for unopened Apple software is http://www.hardcoremac.com . If you go to craigslist or ebay, ensure you get a black-faced retail Leopard disk, and not a gray-faced disk. The gray-faced disks are locked to the system type they were delivered with, and no PowerBook came with Leopard.

Once you install any version of OS X 10.5, you can get the free updates to 10.5.8 through Software Update or from the Apple download site at http://support.apple.com/downloads/.

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard installation system requirements

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24950

Leopard is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753).

If you can't obtain a retail install DVD from Apple, look on eBay or Google the installer part numbers to possibly find at an on-line store. Here's what to look for:

    MB427Z/A  Leopard 10.5.1 install DVD

    MB576Z/A  Leopard 10.5.4 install DVD

MB021Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (single user)

MB022Z/A  Leopard 10.5.6 install DVD (5-user family pack)

After you install the base 10.5, download & install the 10.5.8 combo update at http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update

Caution - Leopard does not support classic mode. So, if you currently open OS 9 apps in classic mode, you won't be able to do this if you upgrade to Leopard.

    Stevus,

The G4 is limited to OS X 10.5 Leopard, and there is no possibility of swapping processors. So, 10.5.8 is it.
