iPad 3 charging issues

I have had my shiny new iPad plugged in overnight with it's included iPad charger (it was displaying some context for some of that).

I have just woken up and it's only at 39%!!!! Now I know that it's meant to take longer to charge but that is unbelievable!?

As I said I'm using the lead and charger it came with, the only exception is I'm also using a usb extension lead inbetween as the plug is quite far away. I used the same lead with my iPad 2 every night and it charged fine and fast.

It also kept displaying not charging when plugged into my PC (which is definitely high powered ports).

Should I be booking a genius bar appointment do you think!?

Thanks!

Had the same problem with my iPad 3. Started using an old hyperjuice charger I had and it fully charged the iPad in about three hours max, even when using the pad to play games. Plugging into the computer for charging is useless and frustrating. Bought a Hyperjuice charger for travel with a prongs for putting it directly into a wall plug (eliminating the cable) and that works just as we'll.Expensive, but good value.

I don't know if I have this problem too yet, I might, but anyway... I just got my new iPad 3 for Christmas and I'm following all the stuff your suppost too, I let the battery drain all the way down and then I TRIED to charge it all the way back to 100%. I plugged my iPad in and then left our house to visit my Grandma in the nursing home for Christmas because I love her dearly <3!! ... for a little well over 2 hours. And when I came back home, expecting to play with my exciting new toy, it was not even charged!! Apple, please help me!!!

Sam an iPad can not fully charge in two hours. Are you saying the iPad is not charging at all? A new iPad should also come significantly charged.

Since this is your first time charging I would suggest you plug it in and let it be for around five hours. Don't worry about what you see on the screen for now. If the iPad has not charged significantly, and mostly, by then then there may be something wrong with your iPad or your charger.

If your iPad has charged up then continue charging until it is at 100%. After that make sure you update the iPad's operating system to the latest version and then go out and buy the new Apple 12 watt iPad charger. Make sure it is the 12 watt model as there are older 10 watt models floating around.

With that new charger the iPad will charge quicker than with the charger that came with it.

I have to ask though, are you sure what you have is the iPad 3? I ask because that model has been replaced with the 4th generation iPad. If you do in fact have the iPad 4th generation then disregard the charger advice as it already comes with the new charger.

Wow, I'm quite envious of those charging in 8 to 10 hrs. I just got home after 2 months of traveling without it. Battery was fully dead and 2 1/2 days later, it's at 50%. And I've left it off through 95% of the charging process. When It was new in October 2012, It was taking 24 to 30 hrs. By contrast, amazed how quick my new Ipod touch charges so quickly. love the new cable style too. Never liked the 30 pin

IPad III

I also have the charging issue, using Foreflight for flying my battery goes dead in approx. 4 hours plugged in, either a 12 V charger or 120V wall charger. Upper left of the IPad gets a bit warm as well. Apple claims it is a software issue with Foreflight, the other thousands of Foreflight users don't seem to have the problem though??

Apple checked my unit online and claims the battery is 100%, but it seems the charging issue is getting worse and the failure to charge is coming up more frequently.

The problem that I have is losing power while plugged in. I have a flying program Foreflight and plugged in to either 120V or 12 V with the program running I am out of battery in approx. 4 hours. I have tried to reduce screen brightness, shut all programs down etc. Foreflight claims it is a Gen III issue, Apple claims it is a Foreflight issue????? They are selling these to pilots, the military and the airlines, lots of flights exceed 4 hours what is going on? The Gen I, II and IV seem to be working so it seems it is only the III's that have an issue. I, for one, would like to see a fix??
