I just downloaded Lion onto my iMac G5. Since I can no longer use Appleworks, how can I open my database documents?

Set up an external Hard Drive with an original OS installation and open AppleWorks on that to export your Databases to comma or tab separated values.

Pages is not a database and Numbers + Pages' Tables are just spreadsheets.

You will have to look elsewhere to use your databases as they were. Unfortunately on the Mac there are not a lot of choices and none of them interact with iWork well. Just another area of large neglect.

Nothing will open AppleWorks databases: you will have to open them in AppleWorks and export as ASCII files. These can then be opened in another database application or a spreadsheet: of course you will lose all the formatting and calculation fields will bring over the result, not the calculation.

There are few databases for Mac: the only real choice for serious work is FileMaker Pro, which is extremely powerful but also expensive and with a steep learning curve.

This page and the subsequent one look at the problem in more detail:

First of all, you can't install Lion or even Snow Leopard on a G5 so some clarification on exactly which Mac you have might help. Assuming you do have an Intel iMac that can run Lion, you could install the original OS on an external hard drive & boot into that if you need to access AppleWorks. I chose to keep a Mac running Snow Leopard with AppleWorks that I can access remotely with screen sharing to use AppleWorks as needed.
