my macbook wont boot. all it shows is the apple logo and the spinning circle.

How can I get my macbook to start? all I see is the apple logo and spinning circle. Previously I downloaded an update to Lion, but could not install it, so I was trying to reboot.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

If you have OS X 10.7 Lion installed, use Lion recovery mode by booting and holding the command+R keys down. Once in Recovery mode, use Disk Utility to repair permissions and repiar your hard drive. If that shows any messages, like failure on exit, please post back, as that means Disk Utility can't fix the problem.

I've same problem as above . I tried verifying permissions and just finished without activating repair permission button BUT I also did a verify disk and checked for errors and the system found some errors and can't be repaired .

what I understood is that the only solution to do a clean reinstall ! is that the only possible way ? Is there any other option ? please I need help .

thank you.
