Why can't I send my iPad HD a text message ? Both are setup to with iMessage.
MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.7.3), iPhone 4S 64GBiMac 2.93 (2)
Did you try to use the mail address, or set up a different mail address for your iPad in Settings/General/Messages?

Used the iPad cellular number.
My daughter sends me regular Messages from her iPhone 4S to my iPad. She sends the message to my email address. I can reply by sending a Message to her phone number.
Are both devices yours? Are you using different email address for each device?
Yes, you'll have to use the mail address, I just tried from my iPhone4.
And the reply goes directly to the phone number

Yes, both are mine. tried sending to email, goes to iPhone 4S not iPad. Both have same email. I'll try my wifes iPhone 4.
I use iMessage on my phone and iPad.
In the system settings make sure iMessage is turned on. Here you can specify how you want to receive a message, by email address, phone number.....I have email address as recipient on my iPad and phone number as recipient on my iPhone. Everything works fine.
