I can't get iPhoto to delete my photos. I followed the instructions and the photos disappeared but the trash has yet to acknowledge it. Help! I need the disk space!

I haven't used iPhoto for a few years. I use Aperture. I am running out of disk space and tried to delete an album of photos following the published instructions. The photos and album disappeared but the iPhoto Trash remains empty, as does the main trash. The Delete iPhoto Trash under iPhoto remains grayed out.

What is the problem? Thanks.

If you delete albums in iPhoto you don't delete the photos. To delete a photo form an album select it and use the Option+Command+Delete key combination. That will move the photos to the iPhoto Trash bin. You will then need to empty the iPhoto Trash bin via the iPhoto menu.

To delete a photo from an Event just use the Delete key and empty the iPhoto Trash bin.

If you are running iPhoto 11 the deleted photos will be transferred to the Trash bin in the Dock which will need to be deleted to completely remove them from the hard drive.

Hi, after I copied a photo's file name in iPhoto and pasted in finder search box, the item appeared under a file in the pictures folder:

User --> Pictures --> "file name" --> *the photo*

and not

User --> Pictures --> "file" --> photo

So after I emptied the iPhoto trash, the file is still on the finder. I have checked the "copy files to iPhoto when importing" option in preferences advanced too. May I know how can I delete photos from finder within iPhoto? Thanks. =)

When you import photos into iPhoto from your hard drive do you delete those source photos after the import is completed? If not then you will have a second copy on the hard drive taking up extra space.

User --> Pictures --> "file name" --> *the photo*

Are you saying there's a folder in your Pictures folder named "file name"? That's what the above indicates. If not can you post a screenshot of your Pictures folder showing "file name and "the photo"?

Thank you so much for helping me! =)

You mean I'm supposed to delete the source photos from hard drive after importing? I realised I made a mistake, I meant to say that it appears in

"User --> Pictures --> "file name" --> *the photo*

and not

User --> iPhoto Library --> "file" --> photo"

Anyway, this is what is found in finder when I searched for the file User uploaded file

The route shows that the picture is still stored in a folder in "Pictures", and not in a folder in iPhoto Library, so if I were to delete this and then empty the iPhoto trash, it is still in the folder in Pictures. Thanks so much!
