I upgraded the ram on my 2007 macbook 4th gen. and with 2 new 4gb sticks it won't boot up but with one 2gb and one 512mb. Is it not compatible? If yes what is the problem?

I have no idea what the problem is but my 2007 macbook 4th gen will not boot up after installing 2x2gb memory sticks but it does work when I put in either with the default 512mb stick. Help is greatly apreciated.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8), Both memory stick are working

You probably got RAM made for PCs. PC RAM is often overclocked to 675mhz to make it work in more machines. Or like PNY which labels 800mhz RAM as 667mhz because its backwards compatible in PCs.

You've got to buy your RAM from places that know Macs. MacBooks are extremely picky about RAM.

These are good online stores for Mac compatible RAM

OWC
http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/MacBook/DDR2/ - They offer Mac tested RAM at very good prices.

Crucial Memory http://www.crucial.com/ - good place to buy RAM from all over the world. They also have an excellent memory selector that allows you to choose memory based on your computer's model

Data Memory Systems http://www.datamemorysystems.com/apple-memory.asp - another good, cheap place to buying RAM if you live in the U.S
