HI,

If you have several accounts then go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > General Section and Unlink the accounts/Buddy lists (Last items of the top section)

Now check the settings for each Buddy List.

Hi,

If this Mac with this iChat says it is Available then we have to consider a second Login

Hi,

Ok...

If you have one Account (iChat (Or Messages) Menu > Preferences > Accounts

This will list Bonjour and then one other (everyone gets Bonjour). (If Messages an additional one called iMessage will have been set up)

IF this account Logs in to AIM then there will be several tabs/buttons on the right.

Account Info, Server Settings and Security.

In the Account info tab deselect the "Use this Account" to Log out.

Change the option to Allow Multiple Logins.

Log Back In again (tick the "Use this Account" box).

Do you get an IM from AIMSysMess saying you are logged in twice ?

If so type 1 and press enter as a reply.

Next go to the Security tab/Button

In this Pane what is the setting being used ?

Allowing Buddy List only will mean you have to have Buddies in the List to see them Online and for them to "See" you.

Similarly for Allow Specific People. If certain Buddies are not in this List then they will not see you as being On line.

Again if you have created the account as Username@AOL.com (or added @AIM.com) then you Buddies will not see you as AIM names on the whole don't use the @xxx.com suffix when it is an AIM Registered Name - obviously the Apple IDs of @mac.com and @me.com look like exceptions but they are registered elsewhere.

Effectively this can mean your Buddies and you are using different Names.

This in turn will have an impact on the Security Settings above.

Also try tuning On Invisibility and then Off again.

Ummm,

I ma presuming this is an AIM login as only those and the Yahoo Accounts if you have one can do Invisible

You can see Buddies in your List as On Line.

They can not see you as being On line.

Causes

Invisible set somewhere as you suggest.

You have told then the "wrong" Screen Name (Adding @AOL or @AIM.com when not needed or listing @me.com instead of @mac.com

A version of iChat that allows the Linking/setting or Buddy List Statuses to the Same thing (even versions that don't have one Buddy List like Lion or the Messages Beta). It is possible this way to get Jabber ID s and the Bonjour Buddy List to say Invisible has been set.

Parental Controls would not do this as you would not see your Buddies as ON-line either.

Summary of what I think you have told me.

AIM or Yahoo account (More likely AIM).

An AIM Login in this case would include @mac.com and @me.com names from Apple.

Your Buddies appear in your Buddy List

You do not appear in their's

You have tried Setting Invisibility On then Off again.

You have checked for a second Login ?? (I am not entirely sure you changed the Allow Multiple Logins to Off as that is not what you said). You implied that you had checked this by saying you don't get the pop up message.

You have not confirmed that the Name has been told to the Buddies needs the @xxx.com or not.

In fact to be fair I do not know yet if it an an AIM, Apple ID or Yahoo account.

Hi,

Are you suggesting logging on to AIM via a web site such as AIM Settings ?

This will work for Names registered at AIM and those from Apple ending in @mac.com.

The MobileMe (@me.com) issued ones will also work.

However iCloud issued @me.com names will not work on this site.
