Q: how to reset preference for time machine

Since I reinstalled Mac OSX 10.7.3.3, Mac OS got corrupted somehow during an update and became extremely slow, Time machine will be able to partialy restore (will strat to restore the file but will hang at the last few second remaining, but will not backup as it keeps on looking for the location even if it let me chose the drive and provides details of the drive, size, use, remaining.  If I try to stop the backup the whole Système Preference will hang.

 

Any idea anyone?
