Q: Batch conversion of AW docs to Pages and Number for Lion

I made over the years hundreds of documents with AW 5 and AW 6, (WP and SS). These are in dozens of different folders and subfolders on my HD.

I would like to upgrade to Lion but I understand that AW 5 documents can no longer be opened under Lion.

Going thru my hard disk to convert these files one at a time and file the converted document in the same folder as the original, would be very cumbersome.

Can someone help me with a script to automatically locate all AW 5 and AW 6 files on my HD, convert them to Pages or Number, and file the new document in the same location as the original ?

Help will be greatly appreciated.

Yvan Koenig is the best person to answer this one: he has scripts available for doing this sort of thing. I've emailed him and asked if he can look at your post.

    Officially, I'm on strike !

As I was asked by Roger, I quit my cave for a quick answer.

Go to my public BOX, (address below)

    navigate to :

    public_YK > for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items

    Download :

    batch_WPSS2iWork.zip

These scripts are old so I don’t remember if they store the converted files in their original folder or in an other one.

Just to add: Pages can open AppleWorks 6 Word processing documents, but not Appleworks 5 - you would need to save them as AW 6 in AW first. Numbers can open AW spreadsheets. Nothing can open Paint or Database documents.

Pages will run on Lion and open AW documents, but AW itself cannot be run on Lion.
