I used Applejack. Reboot was fast so I didnt repeat. Scan failed w/alert below. Printer light flashes->paper or ink bug. Does empty ink cause scan fail or alert below? Or, what could cause another program to control printer? What can identify and stop the other program?

I think it's some hp thing running, & yes, it may be the ink being out that is causing it, got rid of my last hp injet because it kept telling me the ink cartridges were past a certain date... even though they had plenty of ink in them, then it required many steps to get it to ignore that message & print anyway.

The ink was out for a year tho only recently did the end of the ink spew into the bottom. The flashing printer light may not be linked to the problem of the scanner not working. Im unsure how to proceed from here. Should I restart several times.

Maybe one more restart just for kicks, but I don't think it'll help.

Restarted but printer still possessed. Is there no balm in Gilead?

    Will MacKeeper help with anything?

No MacKeeper is SlimeWare® & will really mess things up... I haven't given up, I just don't have any ideas what else to try at the moment.

    Hi SG1776,

I understand your printer is out of ink and giving error lights, right? This indeed may cause the scanning issue. If there are errors or error lights on the device, it might be busy by that and then scanning can fail. Did see that especially for the older products from HP. Therefore I suggest, to insert new cartrigdes first in order to solve the blinking lights and align the printer and then test scanning again.

Btw, there will be an Expert Day on HP forum in two weeks where HP people are replying on questions. Maybe you can post yours then as well?!

    Regards,

    Mandy

Scan failed prior to inkout. Alert says another program controls printer.   I'll post on Expert Day.
