iCloud decreases photo resolution

I was very happy the other day when I received my brand-new iPad. I currently use an iPhone 4 too. However I was horrified when I realised that the photos I was taking with my iPhone4 were being decreased in resolution when viewed through iCloud on my iPad. So if you had plans to use your iPhone as the camera and your iPad as the editor/viewer in full resolution, forget it!

Not quite correct, it's the iPhoto app that has the issue.

Open the image in iPhoto on the phone, if you open the one from the camera roll, it's full resolution, if you open the one from photostream, it's not. The iPhone doesn't keep two copies of the photo.

This is further supported by opening the photo via photostream in iPhoto on the mac, the photo is full resolution.

Therefore photostream does not reduce the resolution.

Without knowledge of what I am explaining above, I would assume from your video that Photostream was no good for getting photos from an iPhone 4s or iPad 3, which in turn might cause me to waste my time manually importing them into iPhoto on my mac. Whereas, in fact I don't need to, Photostream can do it just fine.

So, I believe it does matter that it's the way iPhoto for iOS handles Photostream photos rather than Photostream itself that is the problem, and I think if you are going to post video about this, (especially when it is reasonably well done and hence likely to be accepted by more people - as yours is) that it should be accurate.

Nowhere did I say or even suggest that it is between viewing images on a LapTop or deskTop computer. PhotoStream may well be fine for this. But as in the video, if you are transferring images using PhotoStream between an iPad and an iPhone then you will come up against this issue. And everyone that uses PhotoStream like this will be affected: That's what my initial statement was implying at the beginning of this thread as there will be users that don't care to use the apps I mentioned in the video. So.. Basically A problem with PhotoStream or Not - there is still a resolution issue transferring between AN IPHONE AND AN IPAD. I don't think I can make it any more clearer than this, I hope you understand.

I assume you mean this bit:

On your Mac or PC, your photos are downloaded and stored in full resolution. On your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple TV, your Photo Stream photos are delivered in a device-optimized resolution that speeds downloads and saves storage space. While actual dimensions will vary, an optimized version of a photo taken by a standard point-and-shoot camera will have a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution when pushed to your devices.

Actually that was the point I was making, if you don't think your video implies that Photostream simply reduces the resolution of photos and that this is a problem for iPhoto and not just iPhoto on an iOS device, that's fine. I did, and as your video was so well done generally, I thought you'd like to know. Sorry, if you took it personally.
