Log-in Problem Solved: Safari 5.1.4 and Merrill Lynch / BOA

Problem: Like many other posters here, I had troublewith my Bank of America and Merrill Lynch websites after upgrading to Safari 5.1.4. When I went to My Merrill website, I saw a space to type in my username, but the 'Continue' button below it remained grayed out, preventing me from logging on. When I finally went onto the My Merrill website (via BOA), most of the links would not respond to clicks.

BOA/Merrill Lynch Web Support they told me that there was nothing wrong with their website and showed me how Firefox worked fine with their website. The problem appears to be specific to Safari.

Solution: I highlighted Safari in Finder and went to the 'Get Info' box. There, I unchecked the 'Open in 32-bit mode' box and restarted Safari. That fixed my problem with the BOA and Merrill Lynch wesites, and allowed to me to log on .

I hope this post helps others dealing with this problem.
