Is it possible to directly stream media content direct to my apple tv (3rd generation) from my time capsule without the use of a PC or Mac. Somebody from Apple Tech Support suggested there is a workarround but it wasn't an offical one so he could not divulge how to do so.

No that's not possible without going through iTunes on the computer or an app from the app store on your iOS device.

Sorry, I have my computer running all the time, I don't need to use such apps, I have seen them mentioned here from time to time but can't remember what they are called.
