    Thanks Shootist007

I have an older MacBookPro with 10.6.8 already installed so if I Carbon Copy Clone it to my Late 2011 MacBook Pro it should run 10.6.8?

I would first clone it to an External Drive and then boot the 2011 model from that external. If it boots and run I would still run the Client Combo 10.6.8 update just to make sure you have all the newest drivers for the 2011 model.

Once that is done and everything checks out then Clone from the external to the internal.

    Shootist007, greetings:

Is the Snow Leopard OS on your late 2011 MBP the same one you described on Feb 5, 2012 6:26 AM in answer to my query of Feb 5, 2012 5:00 AM?

Or have you yourself actually installed the 10.6 OS on your late 2011 MBP using an Apple install disk?

    I do welcome your response.

    Ciao.

No I created a DMG of the disc then restored it to thumb drive.

I think the key here is the Combo updater. I booted my 2010 Mac Pro 5,1 using a HD with Snow Leopard installed on it that came from my Mac Pro 1,1 from 2006. It booted fine but was obviously not configured for the hardware it was now in. Running the Combo updater fixed that. I suspect the script in the updater is designed to recognize what hardware it's running on and then configure the installation appropriately since, being a Combo updater, it has all the goodies available to choose from.

That may not work if the Mac isn't supported by the OS you're trying to install. But in the case of the early and late 2011 MBP's, both have the same Model Identifier: MacBookPro8,1 or 2 or 3 depending on screen size, and that could make all the difference.

I had a early 2011 model for about 5 days before I returned it. I always make copies of all disc that come with each store bought system I buy

Please read the SLA; it is a violation to keep an OS if you no longer have the machine it came with. Which makes it a violation to discuss it here.

Yeah in theory I know that but Ogelthorp keep hammering me on this subject so I figured I finally answer him.

Shootist007, greetings;  You seem to be avoiding answering my queries so I have posted an extract from our Feb 5 discussion which you may find helpful in recollecting details regarding the installation of Snow Leopard on a late 2011 MBP.

    Screen shot 2012-03-21 at 6.01.09 AM.png

Please note the post by one of the most respected participants on this forum to your response to my query.

The issue is not so much as to how you installed OS 10.6 on a late 2011 MBP, but your deliberate withholding of information as to how you achieved that result.  This then erroneously makes others believe that they can install OS 10.6 by using legal means and essentially sending them on a fools errand.  If and when you can demonstrate that this can be done using legal means I will commend you (A challenge I made to you in that post) but until then I will not hesitate to expose your fraud.

    Ciao.

PS. For reasons that I am not specifically aware of or privy to, that discussion has been deleted from the Apple discussions data base.

Shootist007, greeting:  This issue is entirely in your control:

If you do not mention that you have Snow Leopard installed on your late 2011 MBP, I have no reason to comment  on that.

If you do mention that you have Snow Leopard installed on your late 2011 MBP and fully disclose how it was installed, I have no reason to comment on that.

If you do mention that you have Snow Leopard installed on your late 2011  MBP and do not fully disclose how it was installed (as you have failed to do on this post)s, I will have reason to  comment on that and will do so.  For others not to know the full context of your implied assertion (that it can be done legally) is unfair and misleading.

For one to give inaccurate or incomplete information in good faith is forgivable.  To give incomplete information deliberately as you have done several times on this issue makes it difficult for one to forgive.

    Ciao.

You are asking about a process which violates the ToU and most likely the SLA and therefore can't be discussed here.

If you will read the Terms of Use for these forums, you will note that we are not allowed to discuss such matters; in fact, I reminded Shootist007 about that yesterday.

If anyone's post violates the ToU, their post(s) may be removed by the hosts. There have been instances where entire threads have been removed; if it is your post that triggers such action, you would receive an email notification from Apple - if it is someone else's, your post may be removed because it would be out of context without the other post, but you will not receive an email.

babowa, greetings:  To be as succinct as I can, the history of this situation is roughly as follows

On several occasions prior to the Feb. 5 post, Shootist007 made his claim of having installed SL 10.6 on a late 2011 MBP without any mention of how it had been done.  On Feb. 5, in response to my query (see mine on this post 3:33 AM) he indicated how he had installed SL 10.6.  Since Feb 5 there have been several more occasions on other posts where he has made his claim without full disclosure.  In a couple of prior instances I posted some challenging questions in a couched manner that seemed to terminate his participation in those posts.  (Note that prior to my 3:33 am post I did the same here)

I have not violated any licensing agreement nor have I violated the Terms of Use Agreement for this forum.  I have tried to be very careful in my wording and with full confidence I can justify any phrase or adjective that I have used.  (Prior to writing my response to you I have reviewed the rules for these forums.)

Simply stated, I am for full disclosure and against deception. It just goes against my grain when I see wrong being done and then to remain silent.

For the record, I have not received any emails regarding this situation from anyone.  I fully understand that these forums are not a democracy and that the 'Lords' of these forums can ban me if they so choose.  If that should happen, I would leave with full knowledge that my 'crime' would be to pursue what in English Common Law is termed 'Let right be done'.

I do appreciate and thank you for your comment.

    Ciao.

Apparently I was not unambiguous enough in my last post:

    1. I did not say that you violated anything; I merely explained the process since you mentioned that the older thread had disappeared.

    2. The other poster is unable to explain here what and how he did it because, as it is quite clear in the screenshots you posted, he wound up with software he shouldn't have. If he explains the method, he might be banned.

So, in order not to violate the terms here myself, I cannot give you any further explanation either, so please do not ask again. I am done with this thread.

aquamandw, greetings;  Your dissatisfaction is duly noted.  I happen to believe that it is important to know that the only way to install OS 10.6 on a late 2011 MBP is through improper means.  Though I think that the odds are not in your favor, I hope you do find a way of doing so properly.
