recording 8 tracks live drums on a dual g4 533,currently on the scuzzi drive.
would my fw 400 dr be slower or faster?im using a 2408 mk2 on this project.
thank you.
There's two parts you need to consider here. First of all is the limitations of the interface itself. Then there is the HD. For normal consumer products the typical scenario these last few years have been that the interface itself is much faster than the disk is actually capable of performing (atleast in terms of writing).
Can't remember what SCSI interface is on your particular Apple model, but chances are that the SCSI will be much faster (depending on what disk is in it aswell).
Recording 8 tracks at once doesn't necessarily require that much bandwith though.
I agree. SCSI is designed for rapid I/O. It just costs too much for regular people nowadays.
The only drives that give SCSI a run for it's money are the 10k rpm WD Raptor's. I've seen tests where they tie or beat 10-15k rpm SCSI drives. If you already have the SCSI drives, then stick with them.
