The new iPad constantly losing cellular data connnection

My new iPad (3rd gen), 4G (AT&T) cannot seem to maintain a cellular data connection. The AT&T signal meter is still there (and shows 3 bars), but the "4G" disappears, and I get a "could not activate the cellular data network" error. I know it's not my location because it happens both at work and at home, and because my iPhone 4S and 1st gen iPad don't have the problem. I have already toggled cellular data on and off, restarted the iPad, reset network settings, and restarted again. No luck. Each time I restart, the connection works for about 30 seconds, and I can check my email, but then it immediately goes out again. Has anyone else had this problem?

Same happened to me, I just buy a new Ipad (7 week ago) here in Panama City at Mac Store. I have been experiencing the same issue loss data conection.its very frustating to have to resset ipad every time this issue occur.... I went to the carrier (Claro) and they showed to me that signal was ok, my sim card was active and working properly...Next I went to the Reseller and I show them the loss data connection, the guy whom attend to me took off my sim card, put it in his cell phone and he could check that all was ok with the sim... but my tablet couldnt get 3g signal...and they say to me that they dont know about this issue. What kind of customer services apple has araound de world? If you live in US, they change it but here in Panama i have to let my tablet for a week because they have to validate my issue..If they go to Apple Support Comunites and search tags like this "New Ipad Loss Celllar" "cellular loss connection".....and so on they will find out there are a many people with this problem...What is happening with Apple... ? what does kind of customers services is this?

Wow, autocorrect did nothinig good for that last post...

I'd like to point out that this problem was resolved for me with the 5.1.1 update/carrier update. Now that I'm on iOS 6, the problem has returned, and identical to the way it was the first time. Could anyone else who was also able to fix their problem, identify if iOS 6 is also causing problems for them? Thanks!

I believe this is a software issue regarding the switch between LTE and 3G as many here have stated. I've never played around with the LTE switch since I got my ipad 3 but never had an issue because LTE was not available in my area (both at work or home). However, LTE recently became available in both areas and I started having the problems many of the posters here are describing. I just toggled off the LTE on my device and voila I jumped from 3 bars to 4-5 bars immediately on 3G. Unfortunately, everything is now much slower on loading (imessage, internet, etc) but at least I can get on. Hopefully, this will be fixed in the next iOS release.

I have the same problem on my verizon iPad 3 but nothing has fixed it. I had the problem on iOS 5.1.1, still have it on iOS 6.0.1. Resetting the network or reprovisioning fixes it for a minute or two but then it's back. Turning off LTE doesn't help. I've talked to Verizon support and Apple support without a fix.
