Apr 30, 2012 6:23 PM in response to YongHwaby Orion_lc,@YongHwa, in fact, I did a free exchange of my micro sim about 2 weeks after I bought the new iPad as I have been seeing this problem since the beginning. Singtel CSO tried to troubleshoot, but none was working. To be really sure, I exchanged the micro sim and the same problem still persisted. Well, one of my colleagues ever suspected it was a contact issue. He bent the micro sim slightly to boost contact and that actually lasted his iPad problem free for a few days. But as expected, the solution was only temporary. So far, three of us in my office are using the new iPad and all of us are on Singtel. I will log this to Singtel again. It's really frustrating...

Apr 30, 2012 11:33 PM in response to LapineSTby kaykrum,Go back in this thread to find the real problem: The new iPad is not able to handle the protocol of switching from one cell service (let's say 3G) to another (let's say EDGE). This may be a purely software issue or a purely hardware issue and maybe a new driver (which we hope they're working on) will fix it. I think you'll find that if you reboot and stay in one place, everything is fine. When you start to move around, everything goes wrong. So never mind the password... - Does this seem right to you?

Apr 30, 2012 11:43 PM in response to scholarwilliamsby D.Eftaxias,The biggest problem is that the Official Apple DID NOT GIVE AN ANSWER.
They are having a bomb in their hands and DO NOT SAY NOTHING.

May 1, 2012 1:07 AM in response to kaykrumby FazerWiz,Kaykrum is right. The only thing that may help a little is turning off cellular data whilst you move locations. Else find a provider in your country who only have 3G cells and hen you'll have no problems.

May 1, 2012 1:35 AM in response to FazerWizby jmgg0025,Apple took 3 months to get the ios 5.1. How soon release a new firmware? This is very strange

May 1, 2012 2:07 AM in response to jmgg0025by Socca5,Same problem occurs in Germany with Deutsche Telekom.
Yesterday i asked for help at the Apple Store Munich. The Concierge pretended that this issue is not known at Apple and that i have to change sim card first. And then, if failure of the 3 G still occurs i have to reset my ipad. And then after all of this, i may contact apple again and then ask for assistance.
This is what i call user friendly service. They load all the work upon the customer and even pretend not to know about the failure.
Hey Apple ..not talking about it, does not make it disappear!
What also annoys me, is that well known media like FAZ, SZ Spiegel and so on, don't make it a topic in the tech reviews. this would increase pressure on Apple...i hope... ;-)

May 1, 2012 3:31 AM in response to scholarwilliamsby p0ttyp1g30n,I can confirm that switching to pure 3G network provider solves the problem.
I've moved from Wind IT to 3 IT. They don't have a 2G (or EDGE) service and the problem went away.
To me, this confirms beyond any doubt that the 2G/3G switchover IS the problem.
IMHO, this is just a modem driver problem. I honestly think that they have some leftover driver from the previous iteration of the software, but the modem has changed a lot from the iPad 2.
Let's hope IOS 5.1.x is on the way, with a correction to this!!!
SOON!!!

May 1, 2012 4:09 AM in response to FazerWizby Tubalcain7358,Having established to my satisfaction that it is the 2G/3G switchover that is causing the problem, I called Apple this morning and spoke to "Emma" who was as much use as a chocolate teapot and proceeded to ask me what I had done to resolve the problem. I pointed out that I was looking for a solution from Apple and not the other way round.
Ended up getting a genius appointment for this Thursday in Regent Street
In the meantime I have wiped my new Ipad and will restore it tonight (as recommended by Emma) and test over the next couple of days with 3 providers in central London, GiffGaff (O2), Vodafone and 3
Will let you know how it goes.
ps all Emma could say was "oh thats interesting, oh that must be very annoying", really!! No sh*t Sherlock

May 1, 2012 6:12 AM in response to Ravantechby royalsiamese,@Raventech,
I was also subscribed to Singtel Multi-Sim! Am glad to report that once I switched to Starhub, I have never ever experienced the "could not activate cellular data". I have been on the Starhub for the last 2 weeks! Not a single day that this error occurred. Do switch to Starhub SIM if possible.

May 1, 2012 10:14 PM in response to scholarwilliamsby Jamesultrablue,I am also currently experiencing this "Could Not Activate Cellular Data Network" issue with my new IPAD.
I jus called the Apple Hotline for Singapore where I am based in, and the customer service officer informed that this is the first call he has received regarding this problem. I told him that he should probably check the Apple forum, as it is apparent from the discussion here that there are quite a number of people encountering the same issue.
Anyway, what the customer service officer suggested that I do for now is to carry out a restoration of my IPAD through ITUNES. Basically, what this does is to reformat my IPAD software to ensure that this cellular network problem is not a software issue. However, I am hesitant to do this, as it seems to be quite a drastic step to take.
Therefore, I wish to to check if anyone here has actually done a restoration of their new IPAD and whether that actually helps with the cellular network activation issue.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
Cheers,
James
