e-banking and safari 5.1.4

I noticed that there is a problem with e-banking and the newly updated Safari. I can get into my face page but I cannot open the e-checking portion of the bank's e-bank page. The bank told me that they have had many problems with Safari since the update. I opened up FireFox and everything works OK. Is the general concensus, from what I have read, the problem is JAVA? I have resetted and thrown away the cookies persuant to by bank. Is there any other tricks I might use. Thanks ahead for your help.

Hi Michael...

Just to make sure, you're running Lion? v10.7? I see your "tag" but not a profile.

Try installing the Java for OS X Lion Update 1

Restart your Mac after the update is installed.

If that doesn't help, go to ~/Library/Preferences

Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.

If that helped, move that .plist file to the Trash. If not, move it back to the Preferences folder.

If that didn't help, go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db. Move the Cache.db file to the Trash.

Quit then relaunch Safari to test.

~ (Tilde) character represents the Home folder.

For Lion v10.7x: To find the Home folder in OS X Lion, open the Finder, hold the Option key, and choose Go > Library

I can attest that this is definitely an issue and is being ignored by Apple, at least publicly. I know that my bank's online banking provider has had to go to Apple to get this issue resolved, as the issue lies with Apple's update to Safari, not the online banking's coding. The issue is not replicated in other browsers and did not occur until Safari 5.1.4.

Depending on the software your bank uses, Michael, please try reloading the webpage after the accounts are listed on the page. For some reason, that fixes the issue for my bank's online banking. Unfortunately, this must be done every time you log into online banking. (Again, this works for my bank's online banking provider and may not work for all online banking sites.)

Yes, my bank says the same thing. I really need e-banking to work since I do not ever-hardley write a check to pay for stuff. Your suggestion for reloading does not work with my banks website, hitting reload sends me back to the log-in page. My bank uses two descrete log-in pages, one for account and the other for password, I can't fool the site. Thanks for your help and I guess I'll continue to use FireFox until the problem is resolved.

I also ran into another Safari problem: when I went to log in to write this note, Apple did not recognize my apple ID name. So I opted to answer the security question instead of resetting my password and guess what? The "what is your birthday" question did not include a year. So I had to go to Firefox to reset by password because when I selected the reset your password option, I did not get an email to answer. This is getting stupid.

Safari 5.1.5 fixed one of my problems, but it did not fix my online banking/bill pay site. My online banking works its the bill pay section of the website that doesnt work or even load for that matter. I have tried the site logged in to the computer as "Guest" and I have tried in "Safe" mode neither make a difference.

Just adding my 2cents...

Thanks,

Greg

I am also having this problem but found a fix which I must do every time I want to pay a bill. If you go to Safari/Preferences/see what your setting is for Block cookies. I always have the "from third parties and advertisers" checked. If I temporarily change this setting to "never" then refresh my page for bill payer all of my accounts appear, etc. I then change my setting back to "from third parties...". I can sign out of my banking accounts, log back into the site, and my accounts for bill pay will load correctly. However, when I shut down I have to again change my block cookes. I tend to shut down every night so I will have to live with this fix until it is addressed.

Thanks for your intuitive semi-solution. With my banking service (it is not at my bank but at a site called Henry and Associates) it will not allow me to refresh my page. If I do that then it goes back to my home page and asks me to resubmit my password information. But I can see how your trick would work seeing that the Henry site is a secondary site from the main bank site. I'll try a different workaround to see if I can get my banking site to recognize your trick without refreshing my page.

This notice is on my bank's website. I tried to reload screen as suggested and it still does not load the page:

Bank Anywhere Users & Safari 5.1.4 or 5.1.5

The Apple release of Safari 5.1.4 and 5.1.5 affects the viewing of certain pages of Bank Anywhere. The changes in Safari 5.1.4 and 5.1.5 are impacting many industries and not limited to Bank Anywhere.

The interim solutions for Safari users using the 5.1.4 or 5.1.5 release are:
Users can access Bank Anywhere via alternate browsers such as Firefox
Users who are presented with a blank/white screen after login should click on the refresh button on the browser toolbar to re-load the screen. Please note that this will need to be repeated with each login.
