Just bought iPad 3, need info on CF card reader?

Waited for iPad 3; need to know about CF camera card readers for iPad 3. Anyone have any experience with CF yet?

I've seen CF readers like this one:

However, I find that Apple's USB adapter in their Camera Connection Kit works great. Of course that means that you need to lug around a usb cord. But it works fine. My concern for other adapters is that they could be made inoperable with future iOS upgrades.

Enjoy your iPad!

I have two memory card readers - one USB powered and one AC powered. Neither work when plugged into the CCK. However, you can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.

Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov).

Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import.

Got a Nikon D2Xs, CF card. I want to review images in the field without hooking a camera to the iPad. Intent is to know if I've captured the shot I wanted before I leave the location. Don't want to connect camera to iPad; don't want to carry extra cables/adapters. Goal is to have CF card that will plugs directly into an iPad card reader.

George,

If this is not too late, I am currently using an iPad 3 and a CF conector from a place called the M.I.C. Store. Even though I just purchased it (see url below) it is already being replaced by a newer model. Having said that my works fine and have not seen any issues so far. However, I am using an OtterBox for my iPad case and the enclosure creates enough distance between the docking connector and the CF that I had to purchase a dock extender from a company called RadTech (see last url below). I am a nature and scenic photographer that travels and I believe I now have an reasonable solution for viewing my photos in hi-rez while in the field. I hope this finds you in time to be of help.

Thanks for the feedback. Since you have tried the vivitar reader successfully with the iPad 2 have you done so with the new iPad? I own a number of CF readers and none have worked with the latter. What I can confidently assert is the one I recently purchased is operating as expected with my iPad 3. I was told by an Apple Tech Support person that many devices will not work because the output current available at the docking connector has been significantly reduced thereby eliminating many devices (e.g. usb drives, etc.) that were compatible with iPad 1 and 2. Having said all that it would be great if the Vivitar would work on the new iPad.
