iCal won't sync from iPhone to Mac

Hi there

There are some similar questions here, but nothing seems to quite fit for me. iCal has stopped syncing from my iPhone to Mac, though it does the other way around, & everything else (address book, mail, apps, music) syncs both ways.

I'm using Snow Leopard v10.6.8. I'm not using iCloud or MobileMe, I'm just trying to keep it simple by syncing everything (other than apps) via a cable, & syncing directly to the Mac. I update everything regularly.

I've already tried a no. of things: re-set the Sync Services folder (using instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2481); cleaned up the calendar using Calendar cleaner, to get rid of corrupt calendar events, etc. (& there were a few, though getting rid of them didn't change anything.

Thanks - if you have any advice for me, could you make it step-by-step, please, as I'm only barely computer-literate.

Ever so grateful 😎

- Debbie

Hi gnat111,

Re "Will following steps 6 & 7 delete the events off of my phone?"

Sorry for the delay in replying. Hopefully you've solved your problem by now, but just in case.... Yes, doing this will delete all your iCal entries, but as long as you have followed step 1 you will then use the backed up data to regain everything, all of it, just as it was. And happiness should flow... 😉

To re-visit that, in step 1 it says "Open iCal and backup or export your entries. Make a note of the fie name and location, you're going to need them in a minute. Once your backup/export is completed, close the iCal application." It's essential that you do this if you want to keep all your iCal appointments etc. Then go through the other steps, of which one is for you to re-Open the iCal application and Import (File -> Import) a new calendar. When prompted, use your notes from Step #1 to select the file your created earlier. Once completed, close the iCal application (you should have all of your calendar entries back.) The rest of the steps are to connect your iPhone to the computer and follow the steps described above, in the original post, and all should be as good as gold. Good luck!

If you purchased music off from your iphone itunes music store, you can simply transfer purchases. Connect your iphone to your new MBP, right click on your device and transfer purchases. Another option: There are third party program that does allow you to transfer your music from your phone to your computer.

Try "iPhone to Mac". It's not free, but it works very well. Copies everything - music, playlists, movies, tones, etc. to your Mac and sets it all up automatically in iTunes.

I cannot find the Username/Library/Calendars. Not sure what to delete or rename. I'm so lost and frustrated that Apple's only suggestion is to copy (BY HAND) all my contacts and calendars. Delete everything and create a new user! How many hours will all this take! Zero for Apple, tons for me. Anyway, cannot sync my ical from my phone to the mac. Help!

I'm in the same boat. Just updated to Mountain Lion and iOS 6, and while everything was ducky for the first couple of days, now it seems items from my iPhone 4s won't sync via iCloud to my iMac desktop Calendar. When I uncheck the On My Mac calendars in the phone, it seems to clear up the double entries issue, but then items I entered on the phone are not showing up in my desktop Cal at all. Very strange.

I read this entire thread and began trying Rory's famous fix, but then came to my own end along with the thread, as we're beyond it. I couldn't find my Library under Users...and so on.

MobileMe never worked for me either, I never could get my Contacts to sync back and forth from the phone to the computer, and it looks like iCloud is starting to go the same way...last week I noticed my Contacts are not perfectly synced.

Any suggestions for fixes, or alternate options people have found? With MobileMe, I just discontinued using the service eventually because it was so frustrating. Calendars and Contacts not syncing can really mess with a professional person's life.

I got the problem again yesterday after upgrading from snow leopard to mountain lion. With ML you have no longer access to iSync where you could reset the sync settings of iTunes to iPhone. But I found an apple support page where they give you a Command to do that.

It's here.

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1627

But be careful. When you send this command Mac will execute it in the background. You won't be able to know when it is complete.

Give him some minutes so you can be sure it has completed. And after that remember to check your sync settings in iTunes because they will be reset as new.

Good luck ;-)

Rory - fantastically helpful. Thanks. Did it two weeks ago and it worked like a dream. Unfortunately not so well when iphone stopped syning again with my macbook pro today, as i forgot details of exactly how I did it before.

FOUR (related) QUESTIONS:

1. When i do a back up from the iCal on Mac Book Pro, I push EXPORT and it gives me TWO options - either EXPORT or CALENDAR ARCHIVE; which do i use?

2. If i push EXPORT it askes me which calendar I want to EXPORT. If this is the correct thing to do, must I export each calendar individually if i have multiple calendars (eg home, work etc?). OR is there some magic way of exporting ALL calendars at once?

3. Like others before me I dont have isync on my MB Pro, so do I simply skip this step or have to do something more complcated?

4. Lasty, when I tried follwoing all your steps and pushing IMPORT from the saved EXPORTED calendar, I suddnely get a double entry of EVERY EVENT in that calendar (eg every event in HOME comes back twice but not other items). this MAY be because I incorrectly exported ( see my question 1).

I had the same problem with my new iPhone5. The fix for you may be a simple as this:

Tap the event on your iPhone, which will bring up the Event Details. Under this, you will see "Calendar" and which calendar it is using to sync the event you entered. In my case, it just said "calendar" instead of my gmail address (the calendar I use when syncing with my iPhone).

I hit "edit" changed my calendar to my gmail account and everything synced up nicely with gmail and my macbook calendar.

Moral - just make sure you are syncing new events you are imputing on your iPhone into the correct calendar.

Hope this helps some of you-

Party on.

WHAT !!!!!!

OK... i really don't have time for the twenty steps including looking for applications that I don't have (iSync). I plug my iPhone into my MAC and it syncs... but it doesnt

it only syncs random calendar items. I don't need to reboot the whole thing... I just need it to work, and while trying to do various options listed here.... i now can do NOTHING at all and eveyrhting on my calendar is now gone.

So if I seem ungrateful, ******, short, it's because I am !

why doesn't it just sync properly?
