iCal won't sync from iPhone to Mac

Hi there

There are some similar questions here, but nothing seems to quite fit for me. iCal has stopped syncing from my iPhone to Mac, though it does the other way around, & everything else (address book, mail, apps, music) syncs both ways.

I'm using Snow Leopard v10.6.8. I'm not using iCloud or MobileMe, I'm just trying to keep it simple by syncing everything (other than apps) via a cable, & syncing directly to the Mac. I update everything regularly.

I've already tried a no. of things: re-set the Sync Services folder (using instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2481); cleaned up the calendar using Calendar cleaner, to get rid of corrupt calendar events, etc. (& there were a few, though getting rid of them didn't change anything.

Thanks - if you have any advice for me, could you make it step-by-step, please, as I'm only barely computer-literate.

Ever so grateful 😎

- Debbie

Hey rorygilmore.

I have an older iMac running on OS 10.5.8. Syncing to a 3G iPhone running on OS 6.0.1. My iMac is note compatible with new OS upgrades. 10.5.8 is as far as I can go.

First of all, iCloud does not appear in the iMac's System Preferences list. Only Mobilme is there.

My desktop iCal will push calendars entries onto my iPhone, but the entries I add to my iPhone do not show up on iCal. I did all seven steps in your list (THANKS!) twice, but my iCal still only shows the entries I added while at my iMac. I haven't lost anything, it's simppy a case of one-way communication.

Any ideas?

Thank you in advance.

Hi- in a sick sort of way, reading this many issues about the same problems I am having makes me happy.... here is what is happening with me:

Brand new, fast and furious iMac, 10.8.2

iPhone 5 6.1

Of course, the wireless sync is out the window...it is never consistent anymore with the new phone.. so now I plug it into my computer daily. I do not use iCloud...and I will not.

The appointments made on my iphone do not carry over onto my imac iCal.. at all. No matter if it's wireless sync or plugged in, there is always that element of mystery with my day now...

The appointments that I make on my imac iCal do not carry over to the phone either.

The sync has not been 100% since the picnic...it seems that no matter the update...nothing will work. I am very frustrated.

I've just had the no syncing from iPhone 5 (6.1) to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 problem .... again. I can't believe that Apple still haven't resolved this issue, it is 9 months since this thread was started. The only reason I bought an iP5 instead of the Galaxy S3 was because I thought I could rely on the syncing between the phone and iCal which is 100% necessary for my business - I had never encountered this problem while using all previous iPhones and versions of OSX. This time when I noticed I had the problem again, I called Apple Support instead of solving the problems myself (last time using the delete plist solution from this thread). I was fairly quickly passed to a senior advisor as the first line support had never heard of this problem (?), the SA consulted with the technical expert and eventually came up with the terminal command as provided by rorygilmore (thank you). Although this has solved the problem for now, I believe it is likely to happen again as nobody seems to have addressed the cause, only the effect. When I commented on this to Apple, I didn't get much response, they seem happy to hand out sticking plasters (in the form of terminal commands) rather than admit and solve the problem they have created. On a positive note, they did say they wouldn't be charging me for the support call, I suppose that is their way of admitting to breaking something that used to function correctly. Sometimes I wish I had stuck with my 3GS and Snow Leopard!

Dear Apple iCal/sync developers: Your software is poorly developed, and continues to cause grief to many thousands of users. The problem of synchronizing two calendars simply should not be this difficult, and the problem lies with you, and the OS you've created. There is a fundamentally flawed architecture and design choices, ones that you've failed to fix it year after year. Hidden commands and instructions that don't work - this is bad.

There is a solution to this situation that Apple posted 8/17/12 and found the link on this page (hidden in plain sight)

Sync Services: Advanced troubleshooting for contact and calendar syncing

Look for article TS2481 which involves terminal and removing cache folders

I just did testing on multiple entries in different sub calendars

it requires careful following of the instructions for your OS version (terminal always makes me nervous)

This also will correct problems with Contacts not syncing
