Burning movies in MP4 format in iDVD

I have home movies that were on an old DVD that I no longer have, ripped them to my computer through handbrake (which made them into MP4s so I could put them into iTunes), and now I want to burn those to more DVDs.

I've been researching and it says you can't burn movies from iTunes to a DVD because they are protected, but mine aren't protected. I tried burning it and it "worked" - I can play it on my computer but when I pop it into the PS3 it's not recognized.

I want to find a way to fix this at no cost, whether that's downloading a free converter, or changing the settings on iDVD to do it. Please help!

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.7.3), Handbrake v.0.9.6, iDVD 7.1.2

Hi

,mp4 is no Format - It is a Container as .avi, .mov, .wmv etc and can hold Video-Codecs that iDVD can use and some that it can not.

Open the .mp4 movie with QuickTime-Player

Open Inspector (cmd-I)

Read - Video format/Codec: nnnnnnnnn

What does it read ?

It says

JVT/AVC Coding, 624 x 352

AAC, 48000 Hz, Stereo (L R)

Yes and this is a very alient format - so open it in QuickTime Pro and/or MPEG Streamclip and convert it to streamingDV .dv or to AIC.

iMovie and iDVD will accept this OK

With it, you can convert video to the best format for burning to iDVD on Mac OS X. iDVD only supports video or image files supported by QuickTime. You can use the tool to convert video to QuickTime MOV file.

Trick:

For best results, in the QuickTime export settings of your video editing application, choose NTSC-DV with a frame rate of 29.97 or PAL-DV with a frame rate of 25. Choose No Compression for audio, and set the sample rate to 48 kilohertz.

Tips:

1. You can drag a QuickTime movie file to the audio well in the Menu Info window or in the slideshow editor. iDVD uses the first audio track in the file as a soundtrack for the menu that is open or for the slideshow and ignores the video. For more information, see Related Topics below.

2. If you share an iMovie HD project as a QuickTime movie using the Full Quality option, iMovie HD doesn’t include chapter markers in the QuickTime movie.
