Hi! Question about AU's in Logic...

Hi!

Question about AU's in Logic. I'm using Logic 8 Express with a M-Audio 1814, and a Roland SH-201 midi controller/keyboard on an Intel Mac running Snow Leopard. When I open the AU manager in Logic it lists my Roland SH-201's AU manager as "crashed validation". When I check the box beside it to activate it, Logic freezes (spinning coloured wheel). And although the SH-201 editor opens, it flags that it "cannot read script". The SH-201 plays the EXS24 in Logic fine, and the SH-201 standalone editor/librarian works fine as well. I feel like I'm one click away from getting this to work, any ideas would be most welcome... and thanks in advance!

Thanks!

Joseph

Almost sounds like a Roland issue, not an LE8 issue. Have you updated the driver http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?ProductId=769

Also, if you are just using it as a midi input I don't think you need to load audio units in the AU manager. Although I do not know that synth or what it is you are trying. You might also try logging into the Roland knowledge database to do a quick search on their forums. I see that it is compatible with VST plugins which Logic isn't (unless you get a VST to AU wrapper). Maybe that's the issue. Still, I think you can find a way to just use the midi portion of the synth if that's all you want. Look to see if you can disable the vst portion and it may work, shouldnt even show up in AU manager, just as your midi controller.

Hey! Thanks for the reply! I checked and my drivers are up to date, but I uninstalled / re-installed both the keyboard driver AND it's editor / librarian software. I hasd to do it three times , but now it works.

You bring up an interesting point though. If I use the SH-201 as a midi controller for AU's in logic it works fine. Maybe I should just use it as that and take stereo lines out of it and into my 1814 if I want to actually use the native sounds IN the SH-201. I wonder if I could probably save patch information as MIDI info so it would pop up each time I opened a project, any thoughts?

You can play the synth by choosing external midi when you add a new track. I don't use that function since all my work is within Logic or a plugin and rewire but that should work. Then you route the audio into another channel through the 1814 just like you said. Check put setting up external midi instruments here: http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicexpress/usermanual/#chapter=10%26section= 10%26hash=apple_ref:doc:uid:TempBookID-ReplacedWhenAssociatingWithMessierRevisio n-43984INS_SC_1107-1025958
